I don't see how he gets into the NIT...don't you have to have a sunny side of .500 record to get into that tournament? CIT, all you need is a check and and a faint pulse.
The NIT is a long shot at this point. The 16-team CBI Field will take most of the mediocre to bad teams willing to pay their way, and the CIT will take the others.
