My problem is I don't love the recruiting class so far next year but I also don't love Knox but we will either need someone to come back for a second year or a quality transfer(s). Hopefully whatever happens works out.
Need to land another guy like Reeves out of the portal to supplement the incoming 2024 class.

Some of you are clueless about Knox.

He's shooting the exact same three-point percentage that Aaron Harrison did in high school, but Knox is doing it against better competition.

He's a great player and we'd be blessed to land him.
thank god a voice of reason. If you look at NBA mocks he would be the HIGHEST draft pick of all our commits next year but yeah HE SuCkS FaR CaL . jESUS some of our fans boy .

I’ll let all the experts construct our roster for next year and end with this. How much did we hear about Karter and Kevin’s other brother coming out of high school? It’s not just a name. Karter is a 5 star for a reason and has an excellent chance to be a pro. Thats not my opinion. Thats everyone that’s scouted him. Outside of that every kid is a crap shoot. Could we potentially find a better shooter in the portal? Maybe but if history repeats itself we’re gonna have plenty of room on the roster For both.
BINGO! We are adding 2-3 more players to this class . IMO Knox and 2 transfers - a SG and big .

I honestly have no idea what Karter will do. I do feel the people in this thread basically begging a 5 star to go elsewhere are a bit obvious and should be openly questioned about their true colors. The kid is the younger brother of a prior Kentucky player and again a 5 star from a family that has been nothing short of great and supportive of Kentucky basketball. If Karter wants to come you welcome him with open arms.
So what to all that?

If Knox is hell bent on one and done…it’s a waste of time. Cal would force him into some rotation and forgoe a better forward in portal

If he is about multi year…then it’s a different conversation.

I hope we add at least 2 high scoring and great shooting guards. Because most likely we will lose 2 of DJ/Dilly/Reed and Reeves for sure. Need a 3 that can score and shoot like Reeves. Then we have boogie to replace 1 guard, Perry may be ready or may not so I’d rather get some help just in case he needs time.

I’ll admit that I have no idea what he is or how good of a shooter he is or not.

thank you. I feel like people are dogging him without knowing anything. He’s certainly not a poor shooter.

I don’t think he’s what we need, but he will be a good college player.
We can add Knox and still add two portal guards. We're likely losing our entire backcourt and only replacing them with Fland and Perry. Gonna need some veterans to replace all the guys in the rotation.

Perry/Richmond replace Edwards
Fland replaces Wagner
Portal guard to replace Sheppard
Portal guard to replace Dillingham
Quaintance replaces Mitchell
Cyril replaces Bradshaw

Still need a guy to replace Reeves

I like Knox and he would definitely help us next year. Similar player to Thiero but about 30% quicker with a better handle. From a competitive athletic family (dad played wide receiver in the NFL and won a national championship at Florida State) and the UK heritage connection is a big positive.

I think Knox has a lot of upside as a SF. Seems to have a really strong build, and is a good scorer and, from what I read, improving 3pt. shooting. The problem in my mind is he seems 100% determined to be OAD regardless, and I just don't think a freshman version of Knox will be good enough. Plus, I'm afraid with both Richmond and Knox committed Calipari won't go after the best 2G/SF in the portal.
Strong build? He’s built like a boxer.

You can have one bad shooter, if you have multiple then it today’s basketball it’s an issue. If Knox comes here then great, I will welcome him, I just rather have other options given what Kentucky already has

I gotcha. It's more about what we have already really as opposed to Knox's particular skill set. I feel the same way in that regard.

Well, I don't know what built like a boxer means to you, I've seen boxers in all shapes and sizes. But Rivals has Knox listed at 226 lbs., and he doesn't look overweight to me. A 6'6" SF at that weight who is in good shape AND still in high school would qualify as a strong build in my book. Basically, on par with Josiah-Jordan James from TN (who, by the way, plays PF).

Here's the thing with this roster. If we get Knox, that essentially pushes Thiero to the PF spot for next year, rather than Quaintance. My guess is we get Onyenso back and, even if we land a Reeves/Grady-like transfer, Calipari will go Thiero-Quaintance-Onyenso in the SF-PF-C roles. He likely won't do that with Richmond or a transfer.

With Knox, you'd still want a couple transfers and/or a Jasper Johnson re-classify.

a bounty of riches - 2 years ago we would have been jumping for joy to get him, now he isn't good enough

and I"m not knocking you for it. I don't know enough about him to be excited at the idea of him coming to UK, but if its between UK, USF and Louisville then it would seem a talent defenciency
His dad said he wasn’t committing to UK until they knew who was coming back. They want guaranteed playing time it seems. If he isn’t waiting to sign might not be UK.

Yeah for sure, somto ugo Quaintance theiro and Richmond could all be on next years roster. That’s a lot of non shooters. The backcourt is the aspect fhat has me concerned. Right now it’s basically fland and Travis Perry. They have to get Peterson or go get 2 of the better backcourt players in the portal

Should have Boogie, Perry, and either Reed or DJ. At G. Will have Thiero at SF or PF and likely Ugo at Center and maybe Bradshaw.

Only Mitchell, Reeves, and RD0 are definitely leaving.

Reed if top 5-10 I cant see staying but if Tim Duncan passed on 1st pick twice who knows.

Z - he could really rise into lottery with a few more good gsmes. He's a NBA dream as he basically a younger Jokic . Trwms will regret passing on him in today's gsme.

Edwards - if he had another few games like Bama then he would go . Right now noone want him he has chance at returning or transfer.

I don't see us needing any recruits more thsn what we got.

Boogie, Reed, Edwards, Thiero, Ugo /Bradshaw. At best

Boogie, DJ/Perry, Quintance ,Thiero , UGO at worst .

We're not bad at all next year as it stands . Cal just cant push kids out.

I agree. I don’t want a wanna-be 5* freshman who Cal will play whether he’s ready or not just to get him to the NBA.

If he signs with UK before he knows who is returning you best believe that promises are being made. He also is of the mindset of ine and done. I am just tired of these type of players and verbal assurances from Cal.

But what does the HIGHEST draft pick on some mock draft have to do with a player’s productivity, efficiency and overall impact on winning during a college season? You obviously attribute a lot of importance to this, but I see it as a logical fallacy. I would say that where a high school player appears on mock draft boards is basically irrelevant to the level of play UK will get in a freshman season and that player’s impact on UK’s team success (which, depending on how used, could actually be a negative impact).

It basically boils down to do you want the best CBB players or the highest draft picks? Who are more likely the best CBB players TODAY? The ones that are highest on mock draft boards, or the ones on All-American lists?

Generally, All-Americans are upperclassmen. And, generally, those upperclassmen are not high on mock draft boards. Why is that? Because the NBA is not looking for the best college players in that 1st round. They're looking for "potential" that might blow up into a star.

That doesn’t mean a team trying to compete for a title wouldn’t want Knox, but as a freshman he’s very likely to be a backup role player on a championship contending team. If he’s ok with that AND the fact UK is going to recruit the portal hard for the best 2G/SF available, then fine. But I do think that Richmond already fills the role Knox would play next season (although I’m not trying to argue which player would be best in the role).

I still wish we could find a way to get Big Z's twin brother cleared and bring both of them back for next years team. Big Z could return either way but having his brother as well would be great for future international recruits.

There must be dozens of guys like Reeves
Can you name some of them? Potential transfer candidates that could score 20 PPG players at Kentucky. They don't grow on trees in fact only one other player under Cal averaged more in a season, the freshman Jamal Murray. Surely you aren't diminishing what Reeves is bringing to the table with that comment to say he can easily be replaced.

If I'd said "thousands" the hyperbole would have been too obvious to be funny. Reeves is in line to make All-America so, no, there aren't dozens of players like him out there. He's one of the 10 best. Maybe better.

I just marvel at the shopping lists people come up with. Get a Reeves-like shooter? OK. Yeah.

A million years ago [again with the hyperbole] I'd kid a friend about computer games. That was the era of Cheat Codes. "Why don't you just press the I Win button?"

There are very talented players itching to transfer and a subset of those might like to come to Kentucky. It's among those that the staff will search for our needs. Some of those may be very talented players whom Rupp Rafters will over-praise/condemn regardless of their skills.

Fair enough. Perhaps I read and interpreted it wrong as I initially read it like Reeves was a dime a dozen player.

When I inferred the Reeves/Mintz/Grady like transfer, I meant Reeves first year. That's not terribly difficult to find since we had three in a row.

While we're on the subject of incoming players, here is one of my favorite highlight clip videos. Boogie Fland's team vs. Montverde. Montverde's starters are all going on to Div 1 teams, but Fland is the focus of the video. Check the number of times the kid gets double teamed.

Warning: the announcer at the arena has the single most annoying habit of any arena announcer I've ever heard: he elaborately varies his call of the scoring player's name. You may want to mute the video or say the rosary to control your feelings.

Honestly if the want guaranteed time I could leave him. I know most kids do but I want the best players to play.

This has to be the least buzz and excitement around a 5 star recruit I can remember. I think Knox is a pretty solid player, but starting to feel like UK hasn’t really pressed for his commitment even after Edgecombe picked Baylor.
