IU vs. KU is the one coming first up in a few days. Don't know who to root against.

Duke...KU is very small..Bragg is not starting the exhibition so with two 6' guards to go with Jackson,,vick and the 6'8 center (name?) they are small

Guys dont be silly. Russia will invade us before the 15th. i guess with KU being in the center of the USA... they'll last the longest but is that really winning?

Ok seriously, its gotta be kansas. Duke without Tatum, Giles and Bolden ...they might as well be ranked 25th right now if even that.

Depends on who plays for Duke. Are Tatum and Bolden expected to play? I am assuming they play and Giles is out.

The projected starters head to head:

G Mason < Allen
G Graham > Jones
F Jackson > Tatum (especially with Tatum possibly hobbled)
F Bragg < Jefferson
F Lucas < Bolden

Bench
KU (Vick, Mykhailiuk, Azubuike) < Duke (Jackson, Kennard, Jeter)

Coaching
Self < K

My take: The backcourt matchup is very interesting. I like Mason and Graham's quickness, if they can get out in transition, then they should be able to control the game. Duke has the size advantage at guard, since they likely start 6'4 and 6'6 while KU will be 5'10 and 6'2. In a halfcourt game, I give Duke the edge with their size. Also, with the thin frontcourt (no Giles, Tatum and Bolden hurting), look for some three guard looks for Duke, which would be better in transition.

The SF position is a great matchup if Tatum is 100%. The top two guys at this position coming out of HS. Jackson is higher rated by just a hair, so I give him the edge. Still, it could go either way.

The inside game should favor Duke, which is why I think they try to slow it down and play in the halfcourt if Bolden plays. If Bolden is out, then KU should be able to control the boards and give them the edge. Look for Duke to go small a lot, especially if Bolden is out. Might see Tatum at the 4 and Jefferson at the 5 a lot.

Overall, Duke is hurting, but is still more talented and has a better coach. If Tatum and Bolden play, I give Duke the edge. If one is out, then it's too close to call. If they are missing Tatum and Bolden, then KU gets the win.

If I had money on the game, my money would be on Duke. I'm not the biggest fans of KU's talent as most are. Yeah, they have a few decent guards that have been around for awhile, but I don't think they are talented enough to carry KU to the final four. I am not sold on KU's frontcourt. Bragg and Lucas is not the type of bigs you can count on to control the paint against a team as talented as Duke. Giles or no Giles, Duke still has Allen, Tatum and Jefferson with some pretty good shooters outside. Duke will be too much for KU.

Did Grayson Allen start at PG in the exhibitions? Kansas guards will eat him up!

ku's weakness is inside. hot garbage. but duke doesnt really have the players to take advantage of it.

my guess ku's guards will score at will. dont see either team being at defense, so it should be high scoring. i actually think ku loses to iu but beats duke.

I may be completely wrong, but I just don't understand how Duke is going to be a good let alone great team without a PG. I guess we will see how they look against Kansas.

i think ultimately you are probably right...but at the end of the day the ball is going to end up in either allen's hands or tatum's and they are just going to go make a play. and that is good enough to work more often than not.

to me with duke...its more about who are you going to stop? allen, jackson, and kennard are going to get scored on a lot.

Mason - 5'10
Graham - 6'2
Vick - 6'5
Svi - 6'8
Jackson - 6'8
Lucas - 6'10
Bragg - 6'10
Azubuike - 1'11

Those are our rotational players with the first 5 being guards. Not sure how tall Frank Jackson is, but Graham and Mason have been handling the point quite a while, so doubt Duke's perimeter is going to bother us much.

anyone else want to see KU get bent over and reamed by officials all season long? I swear I'd give blood.. a kidney... anything I can live without just to watch their opponents shoot 47 free throws against them every DAMN GAME

Kansas because the media has Duke being the college version of the Golden State Warriors, MASSIVE target on their backs.

It's kind of like deciding between syphilis or chlamydia, or in honor of Election Day, Trump or HIllary. "Any way you look at this you lose."

Azubuike looked bigger than 1'11" to me, but I confess to being several fingers into some Woodford at the time.

I really think Dook wins this one, but a lot depends on which Mason shows up. He can be a superstar and completely disrupt defenses, or he can look completely ordinary.

That said, I think Allen will score a *lot* and Tatum will shine. Jackson doesn't look quite ready for prime time yet to my old eyes, so I'm saying Dook. (But I will be hoping for KU to win...the lesser of two evils to me.)

Azubuike is 1'-11" ? Is Self running a circus freak show now?

I honestly believe that even without Giles, Bolden and Tatum Duke would be a top ten team. Obviously missing those guys are a huge deal and makes Duke a tier below the really top teams (instead of being a tier above everyone with a full roster). There are not ten better starting lineups in college basketball then Grayson Allen, Matt Jones, Luke Kennard, Amile Jefferson and Chase Jeter.

If you came over to this board and posted something that made sense it would irritate me. But you go and spew that garbage? Wow, please go eat a big bag of dicks along with splinter and that fat turd capel.
You would have had a better chance getting me to agree leaving jeter off the list and saying this 4 can take on any 5. Jeter is such a waste.

Should play in their opener Friday. He's back practicing this week.

Then I think Duke ends up going small most of the game against KU.

I think this will be their main lineup:

G Allen
G Jackson
G Jones
F Tatum
F Jefferson

Kennard and Jeter will see lots of minutes, obviously, since they just don't have many bodies.

KU will be flying in from Hawaii. That travel hurts. I think it's going to be very close.

This doesn't make sense. I agree Chase Jeter was not good in his limited minutes last year but it's reasonable to think he can improve and become a competent big man who rebounds and blocks shots at the very least as players do get better after their freshman year typically. You would never say Isaac Humphries is a waste and he and Jeter had very similar years wth both also being young for freshmen(Jeter is only three months older than Humphries).
