Kansas City Route

Headed to Kansas City. For folks that have been which is the best way to go. Hwy 63 route from Memphis or stay on 55 to St. Louis. I know the St. Louis route is farther but doesn't seem much difference in time. Not sure though how much starting and stopping on the Hwy 63 route. Anyone with experience with these roads? Thanks for any advice.

I don’t know much about Hwy 63, but I’ve done the I-55 / I-70 route twice when heading to Omaha (thru KC), and I’d advise doing just about anything that is different. That stretch from STL to KC is brutal....unless you are a fan of XXX sex shops every 5 miles for 4 hours.

55 to St Louis and then 70W is better. Better roads, few stops, more exits with bathrooms that aren’t outhouses.

I've gone through St. Louis and over and also cut from Greenville through Little Rock/Fayetville and up. They both suck. St Louis is more interstate but NW Arkansas can be a pretty drive.

I would go I-40 to I-49 up the west coast of Missouri. Is it 30 minutes longer than thru St. Louis?.. yep. But that drive on I-70 makes me want to slit my wrists.

The drive from Little Rock up through about Joplin is lovely.

Oh.. and I've never done it but only a masochist would choose 63.

My parents drive from the bootheel to KC 4-5 times a year. They only go through Springfield. Saves them almost an hour of driving time.

Take 55 to Sikeston,MO then us 60 to Springfield (nice divided four lane) straighter than 63 by a large margin. Springfield to KC is then 3 1/2 hrs on 13 to 7 to 71 all four lane straight with out many speed traps. I70 is awful with big trucks much like I40
