I think at this point it's safe to say that we have a major issue with our S&C and medical staff. I know a broken foot doesn't have anything to do with S&C but after he's well enough to get around and put weight on it, there are programs and exercises to help strengthen it. Instead, our guy goes in reverse. Then we have the JQ mess. Was he rushed back too soon which set up another setback? Or did he not get the proper care to let it heal properly and now needs a second surgery? Butler's shoulder was jacked all season. Jaxson's wrist was a mess and then finally had to have surgery. Andrew Carr had on and off again back issues that never went away. Kriisa's injury was initially said to be a 3-6 week injury. he never came back. Sorry but, I'm seeing a pattern here.
Maybe we need to utilize Vandy Medical to treat our injured bball players

Not gonna panic over this yet.

As another poster said the chances of winning something that matters (sec reg season or tourney, ncaa final four or national title) arent something many are projecting if healthy anyways.

Well, the good news is we have a lot of depth at the forward spots.

I was *hoping* for a big jump from Kam this season, but not necessarily expecting it. Last year’s pre-injury contribution wasn’t going to cut it. So from that perspective, it isn’t a huge loss. Time for others to produce. The minutes are there for the taking.

The decisions and actions over this summer can now be seen more clearly in focus as a result of keeping Big Frank - and now getting Kam surgery - and holding them out. It obviously makes sense having to hold both out this summer to heal and get as healthy as they can be, but the very fact that this is the reality to deal with is a serious red flag at this stage. The recruiting failures have every bit, very much, everything, to do with the roster construction issues Pope is experiencing.

You cannot sugar coat it, be overly optimistic about the situation, nor pretend it will not have a lingering factor as the season starts and progresses. At this point, Pope needs to fill out that 15th spot on the roster and somehow make it as miraculous as pulling a rabbit out of a hat for what we need to have success this upcoming year.

I'm finished with anything but simply supporting Pope and the team, leaving anything negative aside, for me, personally.

The track record with injuries and conditioning are beyond debateable at this point. I am a naturally positive and optimistic person but I am a realist. I will be positive and steadfast in support thru this difficult time. Yet I have serious reservations about actually seeing the results we need in order to keep Mark Pope our coach. It's a tough position to have to come into and tougher now that 2 years have passed and the wolves are circling the program.

To add to a Dr. Philism : The best predictor of future behavior, actions, and results, is relevant past behavior, actions & results.

We are now in a wait and see mode to see what ultimately becomes of all this. It's not trending in a way that gives itself to being overly confident nor overly positive & optimistic - that is a fact. It doesn't necessarily have to mean being negative about it all, either.

That said, if both players ( all of them, really) can get to 100% health and stay that way as much as possible thru a grueling season, which is going to happen, then we have a chance at something good to come of the caution being shown. But if it is seen from the very start of the season, from game one, where we aren't good to go, fully prepared and 100% ready, then Pope's tenure is on life support, sadly.

If it isn't already. The only thing that is going to save him is getting great results.

So, yes, it is a bad look, if anyone else is really paying any attention (outside of BBN faithful) but sunshine pumping and overly optimistic thoughts and hopes are a fools errand looking at where we are right now.

We shall see.

In the NIL world, when you can turn a roster overnight, I don't see the upside in counting on guys with lingering injuries, particularly when you can find their replacement in the portal. If anything, if you bring back a role player (which is what Kam is and likely always will be here), you let him know you're recruiting over him due to the injury situation. I'm not sure Hampton is the answer either at this stage of his development.

Now we see why Kusturica wasn't the "luxury" some of our naive fans were making him out to be. He was indeed a must-get.

stupid not to bring in a replacement for Kam in the offseason given this situation. No excuses

It's a shame the NCAA change the opening of the season starting tomorrow. Maybe Kam will sign up with us next season.

I may be mistaken, but I wasn't aware of anyone on that first team having a history of injury. Pope took a gamble on JQ and it but him in the ***, but I'm not familiar with anyone else from last year's team who had a history of injury. I might just have a crappy memory, which is a definite possibility....

This year, we have Franck the Tank, and he'll probably be injured at some point, but he's our co-backup center next to Uzi and Potter. Kam is worth retaining despite the surgery. I really, really like his game and his length at the 3 or as a stretch 4.

I dunno what to tell ya. I feel the same way about injuries, but we were absolutely blessed in Cal's first 6-ish years with our injury bug luck. It's one thing if a player is allegedly injured but a coach hasn't seen em. It's another if you have dudes breaking bones, dislocating joints, or tearing labrums. Those aren't things you can predict.
Cal got lucky his 6 player 2011 Final Four team didn't have injuries. And I don't count Vargas.

It's a bad look for this program. JQ came back and it didn't work. Same for Lowe. Lowe probably should have had surgery immediately last season. Doing so might have cleared him for March Madness.

I know it's all circumstantial, but most of our guys don't get fully healthy. Robinson, Butler, Kerr, Carr, Lowe, JQ, Kam, etc.

Knowing Pope is fully willing to weaponize the injury excuse like he did last spring makes it all the more frustrating.
Sometimes you are truly pathetic. He doesn't Weaponized the entry excuses they are what they are. Your oversize font bitching is getting very old, especially since the first game hasn't even been played this year..

Kam has already been paid and was willing to damage his body to help Kentucky win. Can he help J Bhatt with the coaching search ?

Let’s start winning big again

So, then you agree that we weren't winning the SEC or 25+ games with him healthy? Throwing buzzwords won't do anything, pops.
Buzz words...lol. so sad. Truth is neither you nor I know how well this team will do this year. How about you let them play a few games before passing judgment and stop trashing the roster and coach. It's all you do and everyone is tired of you and your 3 friends highjacking every thread with your negative BS.

The “realist” cliche once again. No one ever says, “you are such a realist for disagreeing. Get your head into the clouds for a change.”

When did he have his surgery? As i understand it, from that date we start the four month clock -- to practice full contact. Add another six weeks to play at anything like full capabilities. Not good as I see it.

Probably explains why Pope is desperately trying to fill the 15th spot. He knows his job is on the line and if Kam doesn’t play this year that means we basically have one returnee from last year that contributed. Thats not a winning recipe.

Here's an open question for anyone - Pope put together last year's roster, but did he choose the wrong pieces? If they were the right pieces, why didn't he attempt to bring back Mo D, Garrison, Jelly, Aberdeen (5th year), Lowe, etc.? If there was money for Kusturica, why not pay the difference and bring back Chandler instead? On the other side, if they were the wrong pieces, why did he bring them here in the first place?

We keep hearing about how the one upside to the NIL era is all the player retention UK will be getting, but as you noted, we are hardly returning any rotation pieces and very nearly lost Moreno to the draft.

This next season will be the tell all. Pope needs to win and return some significant pieces.

Personally, yes I think it’s likely Pope chose the wrong pieces. Why? To me, that’s obvious — coaches miss on talent sometimes. Other than Pitino, every coach I’ve ever seen at Kentucky has made egregious misevaluations.

I think Garrison was a misevaluation — projecting a major jump was a black eye.

I think Mo D was a misevaluation based on fit and system.

I think Jasper was a misevaluation based on his demonstrated talent and skillset versus expected production.

The rest of the players? I can’t decide if any of them were misevaluated. Lowe and Quaintance were injured. Aberdeen was forced to play out of position. Most of everyone else performed as good or better than expected IMO.

Yes, Pope obviously picked the wrong pieces last year. Lowe was a 6-1 PG, who weighed 160 lbs and was a bad defender and shooter. JQ was injured and chances were he was never gonna play because he’s a big guy and didn’t have surgery until March last year. Mo D is a good player in a defined role but he wasn’t a good fit for how Pope wants to play. Jelavic was a swing and a miss and was known to be a poor outside shooter and that’s how that played out. Jasper and Aberdeen had to play out of position because we didn’t have a backup PG. Jasper was unhappy and had family members in his ear all year that caused distractions. Aberdeen wanted to be back in Florida. BG was a goofball that did not work hard to improve and Pope isn’t the type to make him work hard. It’ll be interesting to see if Oats can push him to be better.

Pope obviously needed a GM last year and didn’t hire Keegan Brown until March this year. That was too late as GM’s are building relationships throughout the year and making contacts. He did a good job in the portal this year in the limited time he had.

Article said it was healing and got to about 90% and stalled, then started regressing (ie getting worse). He obviously wasn't 100% when he came back to finish out the season. It's a really hard bone break to fully recover from because of lack of blood flow to assist with healing. I would imagine him coming back early and managing the pain lengthened and ultimately stalled the healing process verses had he shut it down completely initially. It's July though, November is still pretty far away and with him shut down now, it's less concerning.
Actually, it’s almost August, we’re looking at 3 1/2 months
