recruiting guys this morning saying that Huskers re-evaluated needs and took a step back from him. Not hearing they didn’t want him, but that they cooled in him.

could be damage control or maybe there's some truth to it. I'm exceptionally happy with this class considering the past two years have been pathetic

More info in the other thread about him and us cooling on him... interesting to say the least.

I think it’s the one titled “another CB for...” or something like that.

Good for him. He’ll have to go up against Benhart and company most of his career. Here’s hoping that he is neutralized whenever he plays us.

Wow. Recruiting is not for the faint of heart. Thought he was going to be a Husker. Still a great class without him. I am really looking forward to the years ahead when we start whipping Wisconsin...They stole our identity.

If anyone says we cooled on him is just trying to make themselves feel better. They invested a lot of time into him and didn't all the sudden find something they didn't like.

We have quote a few OLB/DE commits already. It seems our staff prepared as if we weren't going to sign Kaden.

It’s certainly possible that they liked Keyshawn Greene better, but just weren’t expecting to land him so they stayed on KJ just in case. IDK both would have been nice.

I wouldn’t say the coaches cooled on him. They moved on from him once Greene committed. They gave it there all for Johnson, but when he was thinking about not signing and waiting for an LSU offer, the coaches had already gotten some very nice OLB commits that enabled them to not play his game.

I trust the couple recruiting guys who reported it. It isn’t out of the realm of possibility - they have a number of backers and it is certainly possible they’ve got a few others they prefer at other positions.

It’s the thread titled “Party’s Over” that has the info... quoted the wrong thread earlier.

I think cooled on him is poor phrasing. But from all accounts, it seems clear that it became time that staff wanted a decision, or they would move on, and he wasn't ready to give one. I'm sure if he changed his mind after and wanted in, they still would have taken him. IMO, I would have waited and let him drag it out, as we had already come so far, but I'm not the one that has to put a class together.

Hmmmm, yeah, it would be interesting to see exactly what was said between the parties to cause us to turn our attention elsewhere. If we valued this guy, why not keep it up until signing day? I agree, on the surface sure seems silly to not keep the full court press on

And presumably that’s when the coaches told him to pee or get off the pot...

I don’t dislike the approach, generally, but it seems strange this late in the process and for a guy who was seemingly a high priory for most of the year.

in light of numbers getting tight, we promised a scholarship after he had enrolled for 18 months ... he chose Wisconsin instead

And he did end up signing today, so it’s not like he decided to wait until February. It seems odd to me that we told him no thanks- if that’s what happened.

Probably our biggest whiff this signing class, look, it happens.

I think once we put better W/L record on the board we will land kids like this, and beat out the Wisconsin's of the world. GBR

I don't think it was "no thanks" as much as "**** or get off the pot". I don't like it, but we are all on the outside looking in.

We won't know if he's a whiff or not for a couple of years.

KJ may have became less of a priority when Greene committed. Would they have taken both? Sure! They also are dealing with limited spots and possibly didnt want to risk missing on another recruit while waiting.

Don't think they cooled on him. They just told him to **** or get off the pot. They are sitting at 20ish commits at the time and had just pulled in a pile of LBs. Of course they would love to have him, but the it is a two-way street, he has to want to come here as well.

Exactly. It's not the job of the NU staff to love this kid more than he loves Nebraska. He has his priorities and the staff has theirs, if he didn't want to commit and they told him he wasn't the only 4* kid they could get to sign, that's showbiz, baby.

Would have loved to see another talented OLB but the possibility was there that NU waited on KJ and then he signed elsewhere, and meanwhile our train left the station with guys like Francois and Slusher.
