We’ve had a couple reality checks this year. Hopefully this is the one that sticks. UNC is exactly the game we need right now to get our focus back. Just please don’t lose it after we beat them! I hope K runs them like there’s no tomorrow on Monday. They need some tough love for sure.

Yeah okay. Should have had his [ attention ] weeks ago.
I feel pretty confident he has paid far more attention and been far more aware than any of us. Today was certainly a new low, though. Play like we did our last time out against ND today and what should it have triggered in K?

His “ attention”?

Well I’m not worried about UNC, that game can always go either way. I’m more worried about the lack of effort from this team from Grayson to Bagley( can’t really blame the bench) . It’s jist hard to believe it’s February and they just now got K’s attention

I'm not going to slam on Coach K. But we've had way too many inexplicable losses over the recent past to place the blame on the players. Just listening to his presser and it's clear that he's not learning from these losses.

Well now they have his attention. What does he do. Take their Duke gear away? When does K ever take some responsibility for poor performances?

How can you blame him for a lack of effort, careless turnovers, and an opponent that was on fire? I’m intrigued on what you would do since he apparently hasn’t learned from the 1100 wins on his resume. Sorry to take it out on you, but the coaching complaints are bogus to me. He is the GOAT and has a great staff beside him. He’s not lacing it up and playing the game, he can only teach and try to motivate. He’s not a magician. Although I can understand why you may think he is.

Heard part of the presser where he said we didn't deserve to win and this may have been the worst game we've played all year. I agree about that and hope the players heard it but if they didn't I'm sure he'll get the point across. OFC

This team is as talented as any in the country but the losses have been awful. They have a lot of work to do though. UNC game can’t get here soon enough. This loss is going to sting for a few days. Just a crazy season. Kansas loses again as did UK.

Yeah, today sucks so I'll leave my comment as is and not start an argument with you.

At least UK lost.

We are all a bit testy and it might be in my better judgement to stop posting lol. I can vehemently agree with the UK loss!

Sky, I would really like one game where it seems they are playing for the name on the jersey. Call me stupid but I don’t think all five starters are playing for Duke pride. The only one that has really had to work for his spot at starter is Grayson and even he this year knows there is no one on the bench to replace him. Sometimes with honesty comes risk and some of K’s earlier comments about not being that deep or we just don’t have the depth might have taken away some of his advantage of holding the starters accountable.

Some of the learning isnt in the game though. Its around team compostion and effectiveness. We cannot have a point guard who plays almost every minute that is TO prone and cant shoot....Duvall isnt the player to lead the team - yet he is out there all game! Thats a recruiting issue...i really hate the OAD run we have had recently as all it produces are high expectations that go unfullfiled. This team is mean to have a high ceiling but all we are seeing is the depths of inconsistency that they are capable of too.

Here is an idea. Play the whole game like the last 8 minutes of the second half when they are down. Easier said than done I know but they have got to figure out how to play a complete game. They come out of halftime in a daze 99% of the time. That's when Duke teams of past made their runs.

Exactly. You can’t hold their hand. The players have to put forth the effort, and execute on their own at the end of the day. Basketball is a player’s game.

Unfortunately in this rivalry the immediate past will not matter. This will be a dogfight from the tipoff. As bad as UNCheat has been this year they will be playing their national championship Thursday night. This one game would salvage their year in their minds.

It’s always the pkayers never K. Creates no bench and refuses to rethink his defensive philosophy.

I think we need the game just as much as they do to be honest. we need to put a streak together to finish the season

I thought this was going to actually link the presser or report all his comments. They got his "attention?" What is that supposed to mean? Where's a link? Thanks.

Would "recent past" coincide w/ the uptick in OAD recruiting, by any chance?

Because the guy with the ball has the most eyes on him. That knife cuts both ways though.

Duval has easily been better than Grayson in conference play. Grayson has been playing awful. He’s not scoring and he can’t defend. He’s not really making game changing plays to help us either. Hell Alex can do exactly what Grayson has been doing in conference play. Gary Trent has stepped up and Grayson has fallen back. We need those two to be reliable shooters. I’m hard on him because he’s the upperclassmen and he doesn’t even look like a NBA player anymore. When he starts looking like an NBA player then we will be in great shape.

You probably would have been one of the people calling for K’s head back in the early-to-mid 1980s.
He for damn sure would not be a Duke fan if he had been around in the seventies.Cannot believe the overreaction when we lose a game.SMDH

K said he didn't know how to get his players to respond today until the final 8 minutes. That nothing, no matter what was said, seemed to work. That's a bit alarming.

A big concern for me is Grayson because he disappears way too often. We need his leadership. I feel like he's just not going to be the Quinn Cook type leader of the young guys that we need. I really hope he proves me wrong.

K makes mistakes, and gets plenty of flack for it. He accepts criticism well. Refusing to rethink philosophies? Hmmm, that’s strange, but I’m pretty sure most of his former players, Calipari, NBA all-stars, numerous analysts, and even known Duke hater Jay Bilas have publicly stated that K’s greatest attribute is his willingness to adapt to his roster each year. Your response?
