Hate to see it as I believe he could have been a really good piece for us. Sucks more as a fan when it happens to players like Juzang & Baker that seemed to have been carving out a role late in the season before they left.
I don't blame Cal for it but it's frustrating to see so many of the guys who weren't one and done caliber, but you were banking on/hoping to be multi-year players leave after a year.
Best of luck to Juzang wherever he goes, though.
Just really hope Quickley comes back now.

I don't get this one. He was well-liked, got decent playing time and had one of his best games to end the season. I really hope we don't hear home sick and there is a reason, like a guy named Quickly coming back. This one is a head-scratcher for me.

I would say he is homesick and also sees the writing on the wall with Clarke and Boston coming in. He wasn’t going to be starting at the 2 or 3 with those guys coming in.

I hope they are as good as everyone thinks they are. I wonder if Juzang will have to sit out for a year?

Kid doesn't want to compete. Why want that kind of attitude anyway?
THis isn't 1980 anymore. Its a big money business, my friend. It doesn't have anything to do with not wanting to compete. If he didn't want to compete, he wouldn't have came to UK to begin with. It has to do with doing what is best for you. Next year, it could possibly be Hagans, Quick, Clarke and Boston. I mean, c'mon, now. What would you do? Dude's just doing what is best for him.

Rick had 7 in 8 seasons
Tubby had 14 in 10 seasons
Cal has 14 in 11 seasons

Cal -1 point for not being able to keep his own kid, ha...

I certainly don't blame Cal for several of these for sure...various reasons why: Dodson, Harrow, Pulliam, Wynard, Quade, B-rad...not his problem.

I dunno, I just think it is different than it was 20 years ago. Kids have no patience, they are told they are the best from age 5 on, no tie to history of program, etc.

Then you toss in being from west coast, 2k miles from home, a deadly virus sweeping country, recruited over...it is what it is.

I mean the guy is probably a 4-year player. At least he will be anywhere else. UK was his best shot at getting to the league earlier. So far in Cal's tenure, no transfer has left and gone on to do much and none have made the league. Maybe Juzang breaks that, but he isn't going to be challenged like at UK and practice against the best each and every day. Cal sang the guys praises constantly and I think did everything he could do with this one. Like I said I thought it was going well and being a sharpshooter from deep he would always have had a spot. More years than not we don't have enough guys that can hit shots from deep consistently. Just an odd one for me.

Like I said I hope this means Quickly is back otherwise it's gonna hurt.

JJ, in his mind, was never a role player. He, like most 4 stars, came here to be the next Tyler Herro or Gilgeous-Alexander (similar rankings out of HS).
He didn’t get that and yet still handled it well. I am sure we all want great players all the way down our bench, but it isn’t reality with so much playing time at other schools. I liked JJ a lot and wish him well. I get it and don’t blame him or Cal at all.

if iq or hagans comes back we’re running 3 guards. he’d also be fighting for minutes with allen, who got more attention from this fan base injured than juzang. you hate to lose a decent player that can drain threes but in this day and age it’s probably the smart move by him. it’s selfish and it’s happening everywhere. he got some attention at the end of year and that should put him on the first rotation somewhere else. imo he’d still be in our 3rd rotation next year. maybe he’s hoping to do something like matthews. but i don’t think he’s that good. will root for him though. imo the only reason he played this year is because we couldn’t hit a three the first half of the season. not sure cal puts him ahead of even whitney had he stayed.

Not surprised at all, very young kid, the virus throws things up in the air, parents are very wealthy and he playing closer to him with so much uncertainty likely played big role. His brother went to Princeton and played there and he wanted to come to UK to play against the best. This is just wanting to play closer to home and a lot has changed of late.

I do think a nice tournament run with him playing a key role could have helped soothe some of the uncertainties. Unfortunate, but this has nothing to do with getting to the pros or anything like that.

Disappointed. Good ball handler too. But Brooks is the player with more upside anyway, the one more likely to continue to progress and get more and more time on the floor. JJ wants to go bye-bye then all the best to him (depending on where he transfers to . . . I sort of hate UCLA but I wouldn't be shocked if they aren't a possibility).

He drained 3s at a porous rate too...
Never lived up to the hype with the exception of a few games and he couldn't check Rosie O’Donell.

Battle your *** off against those guys everyday. Get better, and be an absolute beast as a junior. If JJ thinks he NBA ready by the start of 2021, he’s wrong. Guy will be in college 3-4 years. And what better place than UK, and what better coach to develop under than Cal?

JJ is making a mistake. That’s the cold hard truth.

that’s a lie the average is 1.7 transfers per school kentucky is below that calm down on the overreacting
That’s probably why he included declare because then Kentucky for sure takes the lead .

Kids are declaring and transferring a lot all over though not just at Kentucky . Some like to act like guys leaving too early only happens at UK which is not true at all.

This is a college basketball problem not a Kentucky problem .

It’s the social media era and these kids buy into their hype that comes from fans watching their highlight tapes and call them great because everyone looks great on a mixtape . Then throw in the fact that fans have such easy access to players on twitter and IG. Also now if you aren’t great your freshman year man fans give up on players . There is definite more pressure for these guys to perform right away than it was back in the day .

The dad mentioned playing time and having to look over his shoulder as two of the reasons why he left . Sure he may be home sick but do you think he would transfer if he was averaging 30 minutes ago at Kentucky with no leash? Him being on a short leash seems to be a big reason he left .

Neither made the league. Kyle was good here and I understand his decision, but Matthews would have been just as good here if he played past his Freshman year. Apparently he thought he was good enough to make the NBA, but after a year of hearing his name, it disappeared rather quickly.
