Asking us not to give up on him!

He's good, we (as a fanbase) need to rally around everybody on the roster!

It's been 4 games, these guys will absolutely click and when it does- phew boy look out, because this team will be something SPECIAL.

We gotta show these guys why we're the best fanbase in sports, not the most negative.

I haven’t even thought about giving up on him. I watched enough of his high school games/tape to know this isn’t who he is.

DJ Wagner on the other hand…i won’t say i’ve given up on him necessarily…I just think he’s a certain type of player that’s probably not going to work as well in college as he did in high school or will in the pros.

Like Son of Saul, i’m not so worried about it because we have other guys this year. Reeves, Dillingham, Reed, Mitchell are all showing they can carry the offensive load on a given night.

The fact he is doing this 4 games into his freshman year should embarrass a lot of “fans” posting here, but it won’t.
Well the thing is a lot of the posters here are paid NBA scouts. And 4 games into the season they can tell without a shadow of a doubt that DJ and Edwards are busts.

Really no need to play them another minute the rest of the year.

Why should that embarrass some fans? People pointing out the best way for Kentucky to succeed doesn't mean we are attacking any players or hoping they dont succeed.
It is not what they are saying it’s the way they are saying it. There’s a huge difference between “I know Justin and DJ are players and will get it right” and player xyz sucks why is he playing. I have no issue with positive discussions concerning players and performance. There’s a ton of entitled bitching tearing down kids already 4 games into their freshman year going on. I’m not cool with it but to each their own. Obviously it’s trickled down or there wouldn’t be messages from the subject of most of the negativity making social media posts about it.

I will add there are bunch of posters on here that are wolves in sheep’s clothing. Not even UK fans just here to stir up ****. I try my best to put them all on ignore but you can’t get em all. Maybe my opinion on the subject will spotlight a few more 👊

Not really. It’s also the first time in his athletic career he’s ever faced personal adversity with his performance. He’s been an immediate star at every level from the time he was playing little league.

Even with internet fans removed, It’s completely normal for guys of his and Wagner’s caliber to start feeling internal pressure and a mental test to not start self-questioning etc. bc it’s uncharted territory for them and they are just as aware that they aren’t performing up to their accustomed standard or expectation.

What are their strengths? Care to point them out to me?

DJ’s strengths include a reliable floater and midrange game. He’s a good ball-handler and can stop on a dime and pull up. Changes speed and direction well with the ball. Great driving and finishing with his left-hand, even when contested, can absorb contact and finish with either hand. Able to get in the lane and find open teammates.

Edwards strengths are having quick first step and able to get by his defender. Above average ability to attack the basket and finish at a high clip. He’s a good catch and shoot guy, not so much off the dribble at the moment. Has a good mid range game that he needs to use more. Has a knack for put backs and “garbage” points if you will. He really excels in a fast pace type of game where he can use his speed and athleticism. Also underrated defender.

This board swears up and down they don't attack players but people here absolutely do. And there are a lot of other corners of the internet where it happens. Twitter, Instagram, etc. This isn't a uniquely Kentucky fan problem, but our fans can certainly be awful.

My advice to the kid or anyone struggling.
Get out of your own head. Put your phone down, stay off the message boards. Go make a play. It doesn’t have to be with the ball in your hands. If you are struggling ask yourself, are you really playing as absolutely hard as you can!?

Go get a rebound, go deflect a pass. Get a steal. Play tenacious defense. Make foul shots. Go after every rebound like the game depends on it. Sprint to your spot on the floor. Reed will get you an open look. Success doesn’t come easy and it sure as hell isn’t free! Prepare yourself to be successful!

Speaking solely to your scouting report on Edwards...where is this so called quick first step and speed you are referencing? He looks like he is stuck in cement through these first four games. I have not seen any evidence of being speedy and having a quick first step.

I would definitely agree on the garbage points. A lot of his production has been as a result of that.

Kind of sad that just 4 games in, a player feels inclined to plead to the fanbase to not throw him in the trash.

Edwards has several brand new guards feeding him the ball from what he was used to in HS, along with Shep and Dilly taking a ton of impactful production. It's probably going to take a little while to get going. I don't think SF is an easy-to-pick-up position for college freshman.

Not all of our guys were going to score 20pts a game to open up the season.

Mike that’s what I hate about social media man. Grown men acting like they’re still living with mommy at home trashing kids out here working their butts off for a better life. Most have never shot over ten shots in their lives and want to put down a kid for having a little slump. Lmao. Edwards is still helping us win games and is playing really tough while on the court, he’s scrappy as he can be and is doing everything possible to help, he’s playing really good defense and rebounds hard. He’s so close to absolutely going off and putting someone on a poster, and his shots are starting to get a little softer than in the first couple games. The game is definitely slowing down for him and he’s going to be an all SEC TYPE player by seasons end. In my opinion of course! Now DJ is a great player too and you can just tell he has the weight of the world on his back. He’s going to be really good for us and you can still see how much he wants to be great. I’m not sure he’s a natural point guard because he’s never really been yet, in high school he always had a point guard and he was the two so he’s still fighting and will figure it out. I just wish some of these pitiful idiots would give these kids a little time before going on tix tok, Twitter, or wherever they go and trash 18-20 year olds who’s working this hard. I probably didn’t need to add the insult there at the last but it felt right. Ha.

its almost like all freshman won't adjust the same to college ball, some will take longer than others doesn't matter how highly touted they are. he's fine, the problem is ppl assuming the way he's playing now will be the same version of him come January - Feburary. some of our fanbase is delusional

Was just about to say the same thing.
He shouldn’t have to post that 4 games into his freshman year.
Some fans on here are so short sided.
And fail to remember all the great freshman who have started out of the gates slow as they adjusted to the college game.

The same ones bashing them
Now will be swinging from their sac in a couple months.

This is a place to chat about UK basketball and there will always be positive and negative folks. If players are paying attention to this website, I have no pity for them. Now if adults are tweeting or sending them messages directly, that has crossed the line and they are scum.

I was never that guy, but just think of some kid you once knew who was freaked out and a little unsure of themselves leaving home. I see it every august on campus. Then imagine that kid has to play in front of giant crowds ona big arena and have ******** like us jump on to him.

He’ll be ok.

But isn’t the BBN the best group of supportive fans in the country?

Or is that used to be the best…

Definitely USED to be the best.

We have quickly become the most negative and overly critical fanbase in college basketball- we bash our own players and coaches more than we spend time praising them, or bashing our rivals.

It's embarrassing.
