Would you retire with a ball less media, sack less fans and that compensation? Not to mention he is the athletic department. The Big Ten west gave KF a chance year after year. It was a gift, and his feminine persona couldn't rise to the occasion.
And he is NOT retiring. Nope. Beth firing Brain means we get to sit back and watch a decade-long revenge tour. Saban and Stoops retired with class. We're stuck with Paterno 2.0
Based on your thinking at the end of the regular season every team in America but 12 need to bury their heads in shame. No playoff no nothing.
No playoff no nothing.
No playoff no nothing.
Just like your opinion, means nothing. Maybe less than nothing if that is possible. No playoff no nothing.
Unlike college basketball, football teams get eliminated from contention very early. When that happens should the teams just stop playing and forfeit their remaining games? This is the reality now. Two, and ONLY two, things matter...playing for a conf. championship and playing in the CFP. All else is meaningless in the global scheme.
Some will inevitably come here and try to argue the importance of things like winning on the west coast, beating a ranked team, keeping a rivalry trophy, going to a bowl game, etc. Those things matter only to the tiny subset of fans, media and others who myopically follow Iowa football.
They wouldn't even be miniscule blips on the greater CFB radar, precisely because they would not be precursors to the only two things that truly matter in the sport now.
I wouldn't call them a great team, but they are a good one. This team has lost to two of the best teams in the country in heartbreaking fashion yes. But they gave them everything they had and I know there are no moral victories but this is a great team that with a few breaks they would be 9 and 1. No moral victories I know but ******** these guys fight and can play with anyone
You know what? I agree with you. I think Iowa has a pretty dang good team. 3 close losses that could have been wins. This team has lost to two of the best teams in the country in heartbreaking fashion yes. But they gave them everything they had and I know there are no moral victories but this is a great team that with a few breaks they would be 9 and 1. 2 more losses isn't happening. Until Nebraska proves it can stop stealing defeat from the jaws of victory that game is a W. MSU is no world beater and it's at home. Next week is the only potential loss in my opinion.um, 9-3 is very optimistic. Very, very good chance we're looking at 8-4 or 7-5
It does to KFs bank account. No playoff no nothing.
I agree and this is great in a vacuum. However, when you're 0 for the last 12 against ranked teams and you're on the wrong end of heartbreaking losses this frequently, there is something fundamental at play. Something is flawed with the philosophy. This team has lost to two of the best teams in the country in heartbreaking fashion yes. But they gave them everything they had and I know there are no moral victories but this is a great team that with a few breaks they would be 9 and 1. Continuing to practice, coach, play the games, etc. is what teams do because it's what teams are obligated to do. For the team/program, sticking to that process is meaningful. For select players, especially those who have next-level aspirations, that is meaningful. But continuing to try, continuing to win, etc. doesn't make all of that stuff "meaningful" in the big picture of CFB once conf. championship and/or CFP are out of reach.Unlike college basketball, football teams get eliminated from contention very early. When that happens should the teams just stop playing and forfeit their remaining games?
^^^^^Not bringing in a transfer LB was a big problem. DL has their issues but LB play has been well below Iowa needed output. TE has been a hole as well this season. Iowa could really use a run stuffing DT. These issues get exposed against top 25 teams.
Next year QB, OL, DL, LB, and DB could all be what holds Iowa back. You have to start beating top 25 teams. Iowa can't develop players fast enough to fill holes in what is needed in this era.
Probably lose next week Kirk historically doesn’t have his teams ready for west coast trips. No playoff no nothing.

Beating USC next week, MSU the following week, Nebby on Black Friday, and some other also ran in a half-empty bowl venue with 1/3 of each team sitting out, would be better than the alternative (a.k.a. losing). But that doesn't make it meaningful in the context of what really matters in the sport today.
This is just the reality of CFB now.
USC at Kinnick I like our chances, on the West Coast we'll get boatraced. Same old same old.Probably lose next week Kirk historically doesn’t have his teams ready for west coast trips.
That’s going to be the worst part of it for me. I’d almost rather they lose to USC next week so it doesn’t nag at me to losing to that ****** team.Just have the team ready to beat a mediocre ISU and you would have a chance.
I brought it up in another thread but it bares repeating, with as much as QB’s cost I’d rather they roll with Hecklinski or Brown next year and make bigger upgrades to rest of the roster. Not bringing in a transfer LB was a big problem. DL has their issues but LB play has been well below Iowa needed output. TE has been a hole as well this season. Iowa could really use a run stuffing DT. These issues get exposed against top 25 teams.

Absolutely if you listen to people here. Most the teams in the NCAA should just save the expences and stop playing after their second loss of the season.Unlike college basketball, football teams get eliminated from contention very early. When that happens should the teams just stop playing and forfeit their remaining games?
Truly I feel REALLY sorry for some of you guys. I really do. When doing your best, and giving your best effort doesn't matter. Those guys in those black uniforms are not losers. Not in my book. Now a bunch of posters on this forum, thats another story entirely. You know what? I agree with you. I think Iowa has a pretty dang good team. 3 close losses that could have been wins.
Problem is that we are now seen as a speed bump. A high quality opponent that gives a good test against the top teams that validates them as a contender. We're a worthy opponent, not feared. Not feared as a legit contender.
We need to break through that ceiling because quality seasons don't matter. 8-9 wins don't matter. Bowl games don't matter. Hard fought losses against top opponents don't matter.
All that matters is making the CFP. That's it. That's the goal. Nothing else matters.

Correct. You can get little personal victories like rivalry trophies, but the only thing that the entire CFB world cares about is the playoffs. You're not in the playoffs? You don't matter. You don't make the playoffs? Your season was a failure. This is how you're viewed, whether you like it or not. The most brutal part of football is that if you aren't more or less perfect, you aren't going anywhere. No room for error. If we had beaten those losers in Ames, we would still be in the hunt, albeit not entirely in control of our own destiny. Now all we can do is focus on developing and working on things to improve for next year.
Actually, thats totally false. It does matter in the big picture of college football for Iowa and other teams who may be eliminated, because they play OTHER teams in contention. Should Iowa just lay down next week at USC since it doesn't matter to them? Does that have an impact on the CFP? I'm sure glad none of you guys coach one of these teams, with the kind of mentality that you show here.Continuing to practice, coach, play the games, etc. is what teams do because it's what teams are obligated to do. For the team/program, sticking to that process is meaningful. For select players, especially those who have next-level aspirations, that is meaningful.
