Feel better than ever that he is our coach. There couldn't have been a better fit that him for MSU. He relishes being an underdog. He is perfect.

I read it. Several things I learned about him was he’s a odd ball, he’s a disciplinarian and don’t take crap, very simplistic in his offense and relishes being a underdog. Also I couldn’t believe what went down at Texas Tech. Texas politics are worse than MS if that’s possible. Craig James is a POS.

Texas Tech looked like a bunch of chumps in that whole situation. I hope that if a Craig James type of D-bag ever tries to do that to any coach in our program Cohen tells him to pound sand and stands up for our coach.

That tweet reminded me of the story in the book of him peeing in that dog's face when he was a kid because it kept peeing on his camping stuff.

Yep, it's a good read. An Ole Miss fan loaned me a copy. He bought it several years ago. I would recommend any fan of college football read it, even those that don't care about the X's and O's.

It was an interesting read, I think I would have enjoyed it even if I did't like football.

This book is hard as hell to get right now, and has been since 2 days after we hired him.

I will admit that MOST things seem like great fits but I am still leery of running that offense with the athletes we typically get, and the same for the defense, although I guess the defense has certainly worked here before.

All that said, we also have never really tried an offense like this. Not to mention we have a lot of throwers lined up and Mississippi high schools have largely transitioned to spread offenses that chunk it around.

On another note, I really do hope Leach rattles the cages of so many of our deep south aristocratic fans and loosens them up so maybe they will care a little more about the team and a little less about impressing their friends. That could be a plus for sure, we need more sidewalk fans that don't give a fuzz

So are the athletes we play against.

Let me clarify this further for you since you missed it. I am not questioning Leach's ability or offense. Every coach has to consider the talent pool, and I'm hopeful he did that. We have historically succeeded by running the ball and with dual threat quarterbacks, which is not what Leach wants to do. Not saying he can't do it, but it has not in fact ever been done.

He has always done more with less and for the most part done well against more talented competition. Sure he is going up against better talent, but as stated previously he is working with better talent.

His approach emphasizing learning and practicing how to do a smaller number of things very well. This includes not running symmetric versions of plays and having receivers almost always play from the same side. Our offensive players get to practice everything one way while defensive players practice two ways.

I'm especially looking forward to his philosophy of allowing the QB check from goal line to goal line.

I don't need a lesson in the obvious.

The concern is that we've never fielded a pocket passing offense. We always had a run threat to go with it. The states of Washington and Texas produce more pocket passing quarterbacks than Mississippi. That may not matter if he can go get them consistently, but it's never been done before.

Here's to hoping he's a trail blazer.

We will have a better chance of beating teams like Alabama and LSU by throwing the ball rather than up the gut runs like we were running with Moorhead. Auburn was the biggest embarrassment in football I can remember. Down 3 touchdowns after 4 minutes of game time!!!! Anything is better as far as I'm concerned. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Do the athletes we typically get dictate the offense we run, or does the offense we typically run dictate the athletes we get? I'm sure it was the former in decades past when high schools in our much smaller recruiting footprint fielded mostly option run offenses, but I think this staff will show us those demographics have shifted and improved over time to the point that our situation is now more of the latter.

Historically we sucked *** and couldn’t make Bowl games until Jackie got here. Then Mullen came along and made us successful with QBs when we had a history of suckass QBs. My point is just because it hasn’t been done doesn’t mean it easily can’t be done. Somebody has to start somewhere. In 10 years from now we’ll be known as the school that throws it around all of the time with pocket passers and fans will be bitching about something else.

If you are unsure about Leach’s ability to sign good passing QBs from anywhere in the country, I’m not really sure what to tell you. He can call almost any high school QB or WR in the country, and they will at least pick up the phone. In the month and a half he has been here, he has landed a QB commit from Texas and the most sought after transfer QB in America, who was originally from southern California. We also flipped an instate WR commit from Ole Miss- think about how impossible that would have been a couple of years ago.

QB recruiting is damn near a given with Leach, and they will come from all over the place. Unless there is a new rule I wasn’t aware of that says we can only sign players from MS.

That's it. Gonna be tough, don't know how we're gonna do it, and hope Leach can coach up these MS qbs up. We have two in the state right now, but Leach has passed on them, and that worries me. I'm not sure he knows what he's doing.

Fair enough, I hope you are right. But we aren't 'starting'. Both Sherrill and Mullen gave us a blueprint.

In 10 years from now we’ll be known as the school that throws it around all of the time with pocket passers and fans will be bitching about something else.
We will probably all be bitching about Leach if history is any indication, I certainly hope it doesn't play out like the last two stops. The way to prevent that is to break through and win the conference, which he never did at Tech or Wazzou.

I'm just going by history man. Coaches have come and gone, and we still end up with the same problems in recruiting, can't close, flipmas, etc. and our best players have generally come from inside the state or were diamonds in the rough from elsewhere.

All that said, it's a VERY good sign that Leach got his guy right out of the gate. No telling what Mullen would have done with Cam.

Well thank God we have a QB currently from Texas comitted if that is all we need. Just a guess here but I think Leach with his reputation will be able to recruit the types of players he needs here

Go ask fans of his last two stops of they would take him back. I’m guessing most would say yes. And of Leach comes in and wins 8- 9 games regularly with your occasional ups and downs most fans will be pleased

So are the athletes we play against.

What is greater?

The marginal difference between WSU talent and USC, Oregon, Washington talent

OR

The marginal difference between MSU talent and LSU, Bama, Auburn talent

I think the first one might be greater. So that gives me hope.
