2010, if I remember correctly the last 10 fouls called in that game were against us. Lost by 6 in OT, same team that lost to UK in the SEC in OT after the Wall lane violation that wasn’t called and we lost again in OT by 1

I took my ex wife and girlfriend to that game. Long live Timmy.

Some 17er hit me with something as the closing seconds ticked, from up top. We bolted.

I was yelling out the car window until we got off campus...Timmy..Bowers..followed by the claplap clap clap clap

Thats my favorite game away from the hump. My favorite game was when we got up on AUb 18-0 to start the basketball game...we played the standberry lag and only ended up winning by like 8.

But we were a high wire act with those teams

I still say this when I see State games on TV.
I was at the LSU game, too. The Hump was insane.

Those days are not coming back until we change things in the Hump.

No matter the players, record or coach. Even in mediocre years we had a loud crowd.

They (the powers that be) 17ed up and are too proud to admit it.

You are referring to the student section being moved right? When did that actually happen?

Yep. The stubbornness, strong willed attitude that's plagued MState for its entirety. They'd rather let the whole thing burn down than admit they were wrong.

I skipped a lab to go wait in line for that game and got in the standing room only section part of the student section. It was wild. My buddy right next to me was on ESPN calling Cousins cell phone. His number was posted all around campuns that day. The game stopped close to the finish because fans threw drinks on the floor after Kentucky got like 5 fouls in a row. The guy next to me got taken out in handcuffs because him and an officer by locker room entrance got in a rustle. Calipari called us the trashiest fan base in the nation.

I still hate them and that man to this day.

My freshman year was 09-10 and it was behind the goal then. They split it at one point into 2, one behind each goal, but changed it back to one. The seats up at the top of that section are horrendous. You can't see a thing and worst of all you aren't engaged with the game at all. You don't feel like you are a part of the game, you just feel like you do when watching it on tv.

I was a student 2002-2005 and as terrible as the Croom years were in football...Basketball and Baseball were just as amazing. The Hump was about as much fun as you could have at a sporting event. And we had some epic grilling's at The Dude. Good gracious to be young and free again.

02-05? You were with me. And baseball was pretty damn bad then, too, at least relative to potential. In that stretch we had zero super appearances, only one host year, and one year where we missed the field entirely if I recall correctly. Polk II cost us a generation of state baseball fans just like 2011-2018 years cost us an entire generation of men’s basketball fans.

It for sure isnt as enjoyable as in years past, or even recent years. I am a basketball junkie and I just havent been interested as much this season.
- I geek on Gonzaga but they arent worth watching during the WCC slate, save against BYU and Saint Marys.
- UNC is horrific. Syracuse is meh. UK is better than meh, but I know only a few on the roster. Florida is underwhelming. UVA is underwhelming.
- Duke is really good, but doesnt have the hype/interest of last year or prior years.
- MSU has some really inconsistent offense that is tough to watch and enjoy.

Add all that up and there is some real apathy.

Growing up in the 70s and 80s, I too was a basketball junkie. (Can you imagine having Michael Jordan, James Worthy and Sam Perkins in your starting five? North Carolina did.)

I don't even hardly watch basketball anymore, because today's games are way too different from the basketball that I grew up watching.

In my opinion, the three-point shot has ruined basketball at all levels.

On offense, how many basketball teams simply spot-up 4 or 5 guys around the three-point arc and pass it around until somebody jacks-up a 3?

Generally, the only other offensive strategies I see are:
1) dribble/drive to the hoop (which is fairly simple, because everyone on defense is out near the arc); and
2) give the ball to a player on the wing, clear out and let him go one-on-one.

Does anybody today run a patterned offense? About once a year, I will see a team running the flex offense (or, trying to) and I'll get excited about watching the game.

The 3-point shot, and the 30-second shot clock, has eliminated the center position and most post-up play around the basket.

Is basketball better without players like Ewing, Sampson, Malone (Moses), Abdul-Jabbar, McHale, Mutombo, Mourning, and the unguardable Hakeem Olajuwon?

I think not.

Concerning defense, much defensive strategy is gone from today's game because everyone has to play man-to-man in order to effectively guard against the three-point shot.

In my opinion, the three-point shot has changed the game too much and it should be eliminated.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I think that getting a new facility could help somewhat. Football and baseball games are about the experience as much as the game. It's not like that with basketball.

There is a much better basketball coach doing color commentary on our radio broadcasts.

Really?

Stans 14 seasons 293-165(.640) 122-102(.545) 6 NCAA, 5 NIT

Williams 12 seasons 191-163 (.540) 89-113 (.404) 3 NCAAT, 2 NIT

It's been eight years since we fired Stansbury for not winning enough, and we still haven't recovered. We just fired a football coach after two seasons and 14 wins, and our fans don't realize we're in danger of seeing the same thing in football.

You had me for the first part anyway.....

Yet, somehow Richard Williams managed to win more NCAA Tournament games in half the appearances.
