The difference is that Riley was a 500 lifetime coach and we played like a 500 team. So where was the improvement going to come from.

Scott took a UCF team from avg to Undefeated in 2 years. We've already shown improvement in his first game as head coach. Many of the issues we had were of our own making and can be easily fixed. I'm excited to watch the improvement from week to week. UCF's D was often fairly porous. They just outscored most opponents. I wont be surprised if Chins Nebraska D mirrors his UCF D, which will again require the offense to outscore people. We just made too many mistakes on offense to secure the victory.

Disagree. This defense is better overall than UCF. Our DL can get off blocks this year. We have LBs who can fly around. Our CBs can cover...Montez just hit windows that made him look like a 1st round NFL Qb.

UCFs defense didn't really peak until the Auburn game last year. We looked pretty good against a solid skill position Buff offense in Game 1. GBR

Different staff, same result. Went away from effective running game - check. Clock management - check. Personal foul at the worst possible time - check. False start at worse possible time check. Letting up with lead check. Crowd taken out of the game early check. Porous pass defense - check. Losing turnover margin in a big way - check. Special teams gaffs - check. Losing to a marginal team who wanted it more - check.

Not that all the above can't change, I'm hoping it will. But I didn't see much new today.
I have a very different opinion. There was a LOT that was different today than from last year. Coaches, schemes and many of the players. Just a couple of things.

On offense, the running game was back in spades for over 300 yards. Didn't see that kind of rushing much of the time last year. The OL actually had some push to it, they didn't look at all like last years keystone cops. There were some big plays which we didn't see much of last year. Overall, racking up just under 600 yards of offense was pretty different IMO.

On defense, the sack game was back big time. We had half as many sacks in the first game as we had all of last year. That seems pretty different to me. The DL was pretty good. Colorado had a few big rushing plays but their rushing offense overall suffered. The attacking mentality shown by the defense was night and day different than Diaco's defense.

I guess if you want to be a pessimist, you can always find something to rationalize your feelings. For me, this first game was a good indication of what's to come in future years. While I wanted to win of course, I'm still very optimistic about what we saw. In fact, I'm actually amazed that a true freshman QB could actually have a first game like that. One can only think that his potential is off the charts - just imagine when he actually is a seasoned veteran and everyone has had a decent time with the playbook.

I agree ... the defense looked much much better, the 7 sacks were amazing, we put up near record setting numbers offensively in the first half, we controlled both lines of scrimmage

the above is why some are upset .... it is really, really hard to lose a game given the above and shouldn't happen. When wins are at a premium you simply can't afford to give away games where you are clearly the better team - even the announcers to start the second half voiced concerns about the potential for the game to get really ugly based on what they saw in the first half.

I get the Akron issue - but we weathered that storm in the first half and still were up 4 at the half and completely dominated after it was 14-0. I'm not sure we can invoke the Akron issue for what happened in the second half where suddenly a team that was completely dominated (Colorado) came out after making adjustments and was the equal or better team. Their staff made adjustments that were not anticipated or countered effectively by our staff.

That same QB missed a ton of wide open dudes all day long. Don't make him out as some stud qb. Could of had 450 yards with more consistent throws.

By the end of the year, I think you will be singing a different tune. Of course, I watch a **** ton of college football all over the country, but what do I know.

Terry Wilson also had a nice game for Kentucky yesterday, he would have looked sick in this offense.

But carry on with the idea that perfection = stud = expectations for Nebraska. We played great. Made a ton of first game mistakes. And Montez stole our hearts. GBR

Obviously not quite happy with the outcome, some things to clean up. But was it was a good game to watch and the effort and the intensity was there on both sides of the ball. I’m extremely excited for the future, A.M. is an absolute stud and we’re committed to flying to the football on D and RUNNING the rock on O. At the end of the day no matter what our W’s and L’s turn out to be I can honestly say I think 2018 will have a product we can be PROUD of again.

People keep saying 20 years.. we were playing for a National championship in ‘01. It’s 17 years people.

Po-tay-toe.... po-tah-toe, it's been a long damn time. The atomic kicks to the ballsack started well before '01 for Nebraska fans, but fine.... let's go with 17 years then.

On one of the last plays I can't figure out why we didn't throw a post to one of our tall TEs. Thought we might go for the easy mismatch

LOL what a joke of a post. Kid goes 351 for 3-TD 0-INT 0-FUM including the game winner while his OL opens the flood gates all day and you're not impressed. OK then.

Bunch didn't see the extra blitzers off the left side, or if he did he didn't have time on the clock to adjust the protection. He couldn't get the ball to the middle of the field because of the pressure. I'm surprised he got the ball off at all, it was a good job just to escape the rush and get the ball away.

Went away from effective running game - check 359 yards rushing to their 44yard. With the exception of the last drive, we ran the ball all game long!
-Different staff, same result? When did we rush for anywhere near that last season?

Clock management - check. This was clearly mismanaged. Common sense says to run out as much clock as possible at the end of the game when you have the lead but play calling was exactly what you'd want to see and we were in position to win the game.

Personal foul at the worst possible time - check. Personal foul should have never been called. Antonio brought some fire with the intended pass break up, it just happened to be an uncatchable pass. There was no helmet to helmet and clearly wasn't targeting as he didn't get ejected. The refs made a call based on opinion which you know is a very controversial subject.

False start at worse possible time check. Walk on QB relieves your starting QB for the last two series of a tight game with a bitter rival. Marches the team down the field and almost pulls off the comeback and all you got from it was a "false start at worse possible time" COME ON MAN!!!

Letting up with lead check. We threw an interception that almost resulted in CU taking the lead. You complain about clock management above and then complain about not taking shots here!
Different staff, same result. We didn't have the chance let up on leads last season because we were getting blown away by everybody!

Crowd taken out of the game early check. Two players starting their first D1 game fumbled early in game one. We start down 14-0 and bounced right back. The crowd was awesome most of the game!

Porous pass defense - check You'd have to be off your rocker to think that our pass defense didn't look night and day different from what we saw last year. We were getting blown out by everybody! The offense turned the ball over 3 times giving CU essentially 3 more drives than us. This puts a lot of stress on a defense. With that being said, Buffs were held to 44 rushing yards on 35 attempts. We still put up 565 total yards compared to their 395.
Different staff, same result. We had one of the worst overall defenses in the country last year. Teams like Minnesota were putting up 50 on us. This is not more of the same!

Losing turnover margin in a big way - check. Two new players fumbled the ball early in our first game. Our true freshman QB threw one interception. The fumbles ended after the first quarter. This is to be expected in a first game.

Special teams gaffs - check. Clear block in the back calls. Easily correctible and not something you see from any team week to week.

Losing to a marginal team who wanted it more - check. Wanted it more!!! STOP IT!!! Huskers played with passion the entire game. I can't remember the last time a Husker team was so emotional in any ball game. They clearly wanted the win and it could have gone either way.
I'd like to agree with your marginal team statement but that just an opinion. We don't know how good CU is.

Not that all the above can't change, I'm hoping it will. But I didn't see much new today. You'd expect most team to improve from the first game with a new Head Coach, a completely different coaching staff, and a true freshman QB.

Words of encouragement. We were terrible last year. We've seen one game so far and there actually were major improvements.

KEEP THE FAITH BROTHER!

Most of the players making those mistakes were the same ones doing it last year. That is pretty common in week 1.
I will say this game reminded me a bit of the BYU game, but there were tons of positives. —Pass defense was rough still, but the pressure was impressive.
-Clock management was rough, but I think that’s the one spot this staff definitely needs to work on, even at UCF.
-To take a team that couldn’t run the ball last season, and do the rushing performance you saw, is no mistake. That takes coaching and a great scheme.

Overall it sucks, but it was a first game in an entirely different system. There were lots of positives. Would have been nice to work out these kinks last weekend.

He was also facing some pretty good pressure so missing open guys isn’t always due to being a terrible QB. If we weren’t getting pressure from the front I’d agree but our line was pretty nasty yesterday.

Arkansas State's QB put up 415 yards in last years opener and he certainly was nothing special. We showed improvement. Not hard to see that.

Disagree with OP. Great potential for at least a winning record with AM reasonably healthy such that he can run the entire offense.

I just hope they don't mess around with his injury, play him hobbled and hurt our chances next season when we figure to have a much better chance to make hay.

I will just say, Bunch needs to be ready
