I said last year (i.e., a few days ago, back in the old Rivals days) that Iowa looks like a team that could go 0-20 in conference play. Iowa State went 0-18 in the Big 12 in 2020-21, so there is a precedent. Fran won't let anybody else play, the guys he plays can't score, and we all know Iowa's defense and rebounding are mediocre at best. Heck, play Kingsbury. Play Ogundele with Rabraca. Give everybody an opportunity. Maybe they'll at least show some pride and grit and play hard. Who knows . . . they might even make a basket now and then.

Since the Eastern Illinois fiasco, this Iowa team ranks with those embarrassing excuses for college basketball teams that Dick Schultz used to send out in the Iowa Field House way back in the early 1970s. (Look it up. It ain't pretty.)

Ya can't make trades. The basketball portal is closed. But hey, maybe Fran should ask Cooper DeJean and several of his Hawkeye football teammates to suit up. Barring that most unlikely scenario, break out your bell bottoms and disco shoes, cuz this is gonna get uglier than 1973 (5-9 in the BIG, 8-16 overall). Hey, somebody's gotta finish 14th. The Hawkeyes are making a solid case for themselves.

This isn't a young team or a team of new guys learning how to play together which is the most disconcerting aspect of the downward spiral. Put ball pressure on the PG, send doubles at Kris and Rebraca and dare Iowa to beat you shooting 7-25 or worse from 3. Fran needs to coach the talent he has not the talent he thinks he has. 3-4 players would be much more effective pulling up for short jumpers vs. putting their heads down and driving into traffic with no chance of getting a shot off.

The offense is stuck in quick sand and is going to turn into Kris taking 20 shots per game while 4 others watch.

This team has lacked a go-to guy who can go get a bucket when one is needed. I’m hoping that Kris’ second half play last night, which helped open things up for both Perkins and Rebraca to get going a bit, will give him the confidence to become that guy for this team. The team will pretty much go as Murray goes, and can become a good team if either Sandfort or Dix can eventually become a consistent/effective three point shooter. I’m losing optimism for this season fast though

I’m definitely ready for Fran to be gone. Ferentz too for that matter. Barta three.

And not necessarily in this order.
Frans teams at Sienna seemed more athletic than the teams he fields for Iowa. A friend of mine mentioned something to me the other day and I never even thought about this. I mentioned how unathletic we have looked the past few years other than a few one off guys(keagan). His exact words were “Fran doesn’t want to over recruit over his kids.” Meaning bringing in a bunch of athletes that would take away time from Patrick and Conner. Not saying this is the case just thought it was interesting.

Decent comeback even though it failed at the very end,.. I'm feeling a bit more positive about this team right now.

Things are rough right now after a promising start to the season. Not sure what....if anything....can be done to turn things around.

Yeah I know they need to shoot better, but when you don't play defense you need to shoot a LOT better.

I don't think for a moment Iowa will go 0-20, but if they do go 0-20 or even 1-19 then Fran should be fired.

What a difference 9 days make. Still think the Hawks will go 0-20? And be last in the Big Ten….hahaha. Great prediction.

It wasn't a prediction. It was the result of reviewing the evidence available at the time . . . including a home loss to, perhaps, the worst team of about 350 division I outfits in Eastern Illinois and a poor effort in a blowout loss to Nebraska. My statement also pointed out that, only two years ago, Iowa State went 0-18, so going winless wasn't impossible.

We now know the Hawkeyes won't go winless, but we do not know what the last two great wins will mean for the big picture. But based on the new evidence, Iowa has a chance to have a good season . . . if Sandfort continues to play like he did at Rutgers and a dozen more pretty big ifs go Iowa's way. But I definitely agree that nine days can make a big difference. Look at Indiana, now riding a 2-game losing streak. At any rate, if I gave you a few laughs with my previous post, super.

Just trying to determine if you're serious or not. Have you watched college basketball a lot? Literally teams go through really bad spells in a season, especially if you are a fringe-y bubble type team like Iowa is. They will have some more good wins, and some more losses that will make everyone wonder if they will win another game. That's basketball.

Sandfordt was due to return to his talent level, he wasn't going to go 0-for Big Ten play from 3. Now, he isn't likely a great shooter (for his career now he is at 32% from 3-point land). But he can have good games. But if he doesn't go 6-7 from 3-point range again, are people going to say he sucks?
