First five games last year, two blowout wins over nobodies, then the home win over LSU, possibly the best win in the Mullen era.
Then weeks 4 and 5 were absolute disasters.
Week 4: September 23 2017
31-3 loss at Georgia (3-0) where Fitz threw for a total of 83 yards and ran for 47. Nick Gibson led the team in rushing with 52 yards. Offense gained about 250 total yards. Defense gave up 450.
Week 5. September 30 2017
49-10 loss to Auburn (3-1). Fitz throws for 150, runs for 56. Aeris Williams runs for 49 yards. Defense gives up 49
points and over 450 yards. We got robbed on a big play early that could have possible made a difference.
I know Georgia and Auburn should be considered better competition than KY and Fla, and both were on the road, but we absolutely got our asses handed to us and Mullen’s offense was horrific. We were completely outclassed.
After Week 5, GA and Auburn were 9-1, same as Kentucky and Florida. We scored 13 points in two weeks of SEC play. We had about 500 total yards of offense in 2 games.
I’m not saying it’s the same thing, but all may not be as lost as we thought. We lost 2 games to what should be lesser competition than Auburn and Georgia, but we haven’t looked outclassed . We could have won both games.
We recovered last year to have a good season, maybe we can do the same this year.
