Major injury news for St.John's. Freeman averaged 17 & 7 last year as a Sophomore at Syracuse. and was rated the #64 transfer by EvanMiya. Rick will just replace him with an International player.

Wonder what the deal is with NIL insurance. My guess is the savvy programs are now purchasing that to cover them if something like this happens -- a big ticket offseason transfer gets hurt without playing a game. Although getting the money back in the form of an insurance payout only helps the bottom line, because at this point I don't know how you fill an open spot with everyone off the board and scholarship limits.

Xavier's AD sent a public letter to all Xavier fans last June explaining that they were unprepared for all of the teams that spent aggressively prior to the House settlement. Because of that, Xavier was well below the average Big East budget for 25/26. He acknowledged that this was not where Xavier wanted to be, that they want to be among the top teams in the BE, to compete for a BE title and that plans were in place to get back there for 26/27.

It turns out he was serious and he came through. Jumping from $5.5M to over $14M in one year has led to Pitino having the resources to bring in one of the top Transfer classes in the Country. They rate #1 in On3's rankings and #9 in EvanMiya's. They also retained 3 players including 6'10" Jovan Milicevic who averaged 12.4 points and shot 43.8% from 3. And if Borovicanin wins his case vs the NCAA, he'll be another double-digit starting Forward to return.

I complemented Xavier's AD at the time for being straight with their fan base and for having a legitimate goal for the 26/27 budget. Compare that to our approach of falsely overstating our place in the BE while stating our goal is to compete for national championships with no real plan to raise the necessary funding to get there. It leads to us being woefully unprepared for the Portal every year, losing all of our top players and scrambling to add to our budget just to maintain our spot as a bottom-tier BE budget.

If Xavier can do it, what is our excuse? As a University, we have a larger endowment, get more in annual donations, produce more annual revenue and have larger enrollment. The difference is leadership, accountability, and a true commitment to support their flagship athletic program.

Sure, but fans are fickle, as you know. One year may be viewed as a disappointment if a team spends $$ and the team doesn't perform as anticipated on paper. And by March every fan of that program will be clamoring for it to spend even more $$ if needed to secure incoming players.

Speaking of X, came across this via Twitter (list of the top 25 college basketball rivalries):

A bunch of BE teams/matchups are on there.

X and Cincy is deemed one of the fiercest by this "poll"/list. Which I agree it is even if the average/casual college hoops fan isn't aware of that one as much as they are Duke-UNC, etc.

They just better win, or else spending $14 million without corresponding results becomes negative leadership real fast
That's the nature of Sports and competition.

From an AD's point of view, he did his job. He gave his Coach the resources to compete with the top tier teams. Now its up to Pitino Jr to produce the results or he will eventually be replaced.

Providence AD has done the same. Supply the resources and give the Coach the tools to do the job. That's the job of any leader. If the Coach doesn't execute, he will pay the price as English did. If multiple coach's don't execute, then maybe the AD and whomever else is making the decision on hiring the Coach will be responsible. But that is the same everywhere. Do your job or face consequences.
