I don't think I have seen it, so I am going to assume it's not happening, but why aren't JUCOS granting extra years of eligibility to athletes? Considering how much we rely on them, I see it as being a huge help to us, but probably a financial nightmare for the JUCOS themselves.

The NJCAA did not charge a season of eligibility to Spring 2020 student-athletes.

NJCAA Fall 2020 sports were shifted to Spring 2021.

Mississippi's CCs plan to play football October 1 though.

I get that, but both the NCAA and NJCAA are planning to play during the 2020-2021 sports year. Whether it's in the fall or spring should not matter, as the NCAA is rewarding athletes that play in the fall another year of eligibility. That's not the issue. Just trying to figure out what their reasoning is.

NJCAA *finally* decides on student athlete eligibility for 2020 - 2021...

All 2020-21 NJCAA sports seasons will not count towards student-athlete eligibility.

Link: Here.

The decision was made over a month and a half after you asked the question.

This makes Juco athletes even more valuable. Every JC football player we sign will have at least 3 years of eligibility.

This is crazy for sure. So if you play baseball you have 2 free years 2020 & 2021 . So you will have 4 years to play 2 years even though you play all 4 years.

My interpretation of that is different— Juco transfers could play as many as four seasons in the NCAA but that’s going to depend on what the NCAA decides what to do about student-athlete eligibility in all its sports for 2020-21 and how to handle juco transfers.

Jucos get an extra year. Any with two years eligibility will now have three and three will have four

Yes its true. There are Juco baseball players right now playing in there 3rd year this coming season (played 2019 (FR), 2020(covid 15 games didn't count), 2021 (doesn't count per ruling), and 2022 will be SO. That will be 4 years playing all 4 years.

Ah... At the Juco level.

Yes, you might just be correct. I hate to think of potential logjams because of people transferring to jucos or coming up from high school.

I agree, and said exact same thing on Spirit board yesterday. If you can now get 3-4 years out of a JUCO guy, I expect to see more interest in them from some of the premier programs. A guy like Zykevius Strong, that we are both assumed to be top 2-3 schools for, who’s a very raw, but very gifted prospect, could pick up an LSU or Oklahoma offer or something, if they can get him for 4 years to play 3.

MSU may wind up being extra thankful they’ve already got several JUCO guys committed. Their value just increased, by a good bit. At least the ones who are playing this year’s did.

Technically, you may be correct. But you can't spend 4 years at a 2 year juco.
