In the Intra county rivalry game JR gets back on track after losing to Radford last week, a sweet win, first time since the 16-17’ season I believe
Did I say anything about not talking about any other teams? I even said I wish I was wrong.Thank you Captain Obvious. So no one on here should talk about anybody else's team other than John Marshall. Sounds reasonable on a message board.
There's schools that recruit in all sports. Not saying I agree with it, but it does happen. Heck, I liked it better last season when JM didn't play. Without them, I think 2A would be wide open this year.Hard to beat a team that recruits at the high school level. We will see what happens.
Yes, Covid could definitely play an issue. You just never know these days.Everyone knows how good JM is that’s why the play the game, to be the Man U gotta beat the man, and with Covid who knows what might happen
I agree. Feels like there's six or seven teams with a realistic shot at a title if JM was not in pictureThere's schools that recruit in all sports. Not saying I agree with it, but it does happen. exactly - they lost at Landstown because they only had 6 healthy bodies that day.Everyone knows how good JM is that’s why the play the game, to be the Man U gotta beat the man, and with Covid who knows what might happen
that's like saying the college championship would be better w/o the SEC. Maybe more even but not better.I agree. Feels like there's six or seven teams with a realistic shot at a title if JM was not in picture
well that's not quite the most apt comparison but no need to rehash all that. I didn't say better anyway, I said more competitive. Most other 2A schools don't have the access to the pipeline of talent that JM has. They're one of the best teams in the entire state, why the VHSL doesn't let them play up is beyond me unless JM just wants to stay 2A and dominate. Will JM play a 2A team before the playoffs begin?that's like saying the college championship would be better w/o the SEC. Maybe more even but not better.
Radford has a tough road ahead. Some very good 2C teams then whoever wins 2D will likely be a good team. Not JM good but good compared to everyone else.John Marshall would win 3A, 5A and 6A this year. I’d like their chances in 4A but King’s Fork is legit. Marshall is 9 deep. I’d like to see them and Radford for the ship.
I think the only 2A school JM plays in the regular season is fellow Richmond City school, Thomas Jeffersonwell that's not quite the most apt comparison but no need to rehash all that. Forgot about TJ. I just thought the last year they played they didn't play a 2A team until playoffs began but they prob played TJ in reg season then too.I think the only 2A school JM plays in the regular season is fellow Richmond City school, Thomas Jefferson
Yup. It's like the jump between D2 ball and big time D1 ball, just the talent gap is hard to overcome. East Rock, JR, Floyd, Radford, CW, Union, I'm sure I'm overlooking some but any could win a state title if JM was playing up or something. Maybe East Rock has a shot if Nickel comes out guns blazing and scores 60 but can't see any other 2A team that can play with JM. Maybe a team like Union of Radford could muck it up with elite defense and stay within 25 but neither can score enough for the upset IMOBig Winners I agree with you. Whoever comes out of the C&D matchup will be pretty good "normal" 2A team. It's just not anything normal about JM, their talent level is just much beyond anybody else in 2A.
actually two years ago Gate City equipped themselves well in the 'ship.I saw John Marshall play Douglas Freeman, who looked a lot like Radford/Union/East Rock minus the big time 3 point shooters. Freeman had their chances but the big difference was players 1-4 believed they could beat John Marshall while players 5-13 were over their heads. I agree with BigWinners and whoever comes out West will give JM a challenge in the state championship.
I think it’s more or less has to do with JR being a legit contender this year along with Radford,Glenvar and Martinsville. JR came to Danville and beat the breaks off my GW Danville Eagles. Not many teams do that. The West will be very competitive against JM IMO..Not sure how this went from a comment about an intra county rivalry game to who’s playing for 2nd in the 2a state championship![]()
