This years recruiting class is going to suffer regardless of what happens at this point. Just to much uncertainty.

You're dating a girl for a few months. She puts on 50 lbs and starts bitching you out all the time. Yeah my eyes are going to start wandering.

That's why you cautiously start checking out some other options. Your girlfriend put on 50 in two months. She could lose the weight, but if she put on 50 in two months, it's much more likely that she puts on another 50 over the next month....especially with Thanksgiving and the day after coming up.

I need to see a picture first, and need to know her financial situation, and her parents financial situation. 50lbs can always come back off, and if there's enough money waiting...I can make some concessions.

I would rather Nebraska get a winning coach in here. If it cost us 11 recruits so be it, in the long run I would rather win and lose one small group of recruits. If you win they will come.
But we are already low on depth and we cannot afford another lost recruiting class. The next coach needs players too. Otherwise we will be right back here calling for another coach's head. This is a serious concern and those on here who have argued that we need to keep Riley have a strong point here. I think he should be fired, but that is a risky thing to do no matter how we want to spin it. Hopefully, we win four of our last five and this becomes a non issue as Riley is retained. But if he is let go we better get a solid coach in here on a timely basis so he can hit the recruiting trail sooner rather than later. My hope is that I think Moos "gets it" since in his pressers he said if you are going to fire your coach you better have a solid plan in place, since in modern college football the available good coaches are snatched up fast.

All of this is why I lean toward going after Frost should Riley be fired. It would unite and excite the fan base and he would be given the benefit of the doubt if he struggles early. If we make another "Wtf, who is Mike Riley" hire I fear it will just be more of the same

I mean in some ways Nebraska is the new Kansas. A place where coaches go and their career dies. Solich is at stupid Ohio, Pelini at lowly YSU. Callahan is back being a position coach. And if Riley is fired he will most likely retire. Coaches see this. They aren't blind.

We HAVE to get the next hire right this time if Riley is fired. One more whiff and we are burnt toast as a program

Said he is coming to Nebraska as long as MR and KW are here. Really that's all we can ask for from any commits at this time.
So should we hold a re-vote at our townhall meeting so the townsfolk can rethink their decision on the fate of our coach?

Hey I don’t blame him for visiting, I would too. Let him get in line to play or be mesmerized by our new hire, young, energetic head coach who will turn us into winners year 1.

We don't have a choice on whether this is a lost recruiting season or not. That is all on Mike Riley and winning. If he goes 5-7 or 6-6 his recruiting class will look the same whether he gets fired or not. Those guys will see the writing on the wall with no bowl game. Our only hope is we find a dynamic coach who manages to salvage HIS recruiting class.

That’s horse **** right there. The guys committed to us right now have all said they do NOT care if weblose ever game from here on out or we win them all. They claim to see Rileys plan and see opportunities.

And I agree, we will survive this recruiting class falling apart, sure. Every team does but it will take a long time before we are competitive because we have some major holes now. There wouldn’t be anyway we wouldn’t miss a beat and our new coach (even Saban) will be struggling for several years just to get these holes patched or fixed. This has been the ONLY reason I wanted Riley for at least one more year. We have the recruits now committed to fix the biggest holes we have.

But I do get it, Riley took a job that he was not cut out for. If dude wants any chance to come back next year, he better find away to win out. Or at least win out and play PSU close till end of game (like a 3-6 point loss).

Link where all the guys committed to us have said "they do not care if we lose every game from here on out and claim to see Riley's plan."

Stallings era tainted by scandal...NCAA even handed down Lack of Institutional Control to Bama
True but it was a pretty harsh punishment considering what he did was to only make one player eligible (from what I know).

Ok so using your logic.. MR is coaching a team that has glaring holes on its roster.. MR also has currently committed, football players that can fill these holes.. so what we need to do is fire Mike And have this class crumble away?

Seems officially foolish to me.

Yeah, you don’t keep a lame duck coach for a few recruits that may or may not come to Nebraska if Riley is still the coach.

People should check out Bama HCs between The Bear and Saban...

At your suggestion, I just did...here are facts for those interested.

Ray Perkins 32-15, best SEC finish 2nd, 3-0 in bowls

Bill Curry 26-10, 1 SEC title, 1-2 in bowls

Gene Stallings 70-16-1, 3 SEC West titles-2 2nd place SEC finishes- 3rd place finish, 1 National Title, 5-1 in bowls

Mike DuBose 24-24, 1 SEC title, 0-2 in bowls

Dennis Franchione 17-8, 1 SEC title, 0-1 in Bowls...ineligible in title year for bowl

Mike Shula 26-23

Joe Kines 0-1

Lots of turmoil. Lots of Solich and Bo years(minus embarrassing blowouts). Shula/DuBose = Callahan/Riley.

They did have several Conf titles and a natty

Unfortunately, there aren't 18 recruits that we can realistically sign that will make a significant difference in this under performing program. So many issues in so many spots that it's obvious to me that the problem is systemic. A change at the top is needed.
