Paup is a guy who immediately came to my mind when we didn't land Parker. IMO, they are fairly similar guys. I think we'll be fine at OLB. Paup may not be a guy who's going to cover guys like Washington out of the backfield, but I think he can do what Gifford did.curious to see him and some other walk ons potentially push for some playing time.

Even if we would have landed Parker, I did not see him helping us this year that much. IMO he does not have the physical build yet to play in the Big Ten. I do think he will be a good player, but I think he would have needed a few years in the weight room to be a difference maker.Paup is a guy who immediately came to my mind when we didn't land Parker. If Nebraska was Wisconsin, Jordan would turn into an All-American.
Player development was basically nonexistent under Riley, but let’s not turn someone like Iowa into something they aren’t. Pelini was a very average recruiter and gameday coach and his program ran circles around Iowa. Lack of continuity and lack of development turned this thing into a circus, but the sun is shinning again.More accurate words have never been posted here. When it comes to player development in the last 15 years, Wisconsin (and Iowa) are light years ahead of us.

Exactly. Is it really too much to ask, for a college football staff, to understand the importance of both recruiting and development?Bo, "We will put the stars on them."
Riley "Hopefully the players will make us coaches look better than we are."
We've certainly got one now that says the right things. You'll notice zero whining from Frost about what it's impossible for Nebraska to do in terms of recruiting and where the airports are.Exactly. OK, they are a consistent 8 win team. They have developed some NFL players, but it's not like they have done it across the board and it's not like they have gotten that much out of it. Wisconsin has done a much better job, turning similar recruiting classes into division championships and a couple Top 10 teams, they also have a superior walk-on program, that has helped them on the field. But if you want to compete with the big dogs, you have develop and recruit. Those two only have half of the equation.Have to disagree on Iowa. Josey Jewell anyone? They did it again this year with TJ Hockinson (sp?). There are a dozen others if I had time to research.
I would agree we are on a better path now, but have to give Iowa some credit here.
