Wish Eddie well, he was an alum. Just not a good coach and a horrible fit for the college game. Hopefully he catches back on in the NBA.

We need a COLLEGE guy who knows how to recruit and develop. I sort of like that Iona guy. We need some juice and that dudes offense will make some noise. He plays fast, which should bring the fans back.

Best of luck to Eddie, who came in when nobody wanted the job.

Moving forward, I would assume that Hobbs will be busy during the NCAA Tournament going from hotel room to hotel room interviewing prospective coaches and we won't hear any names until he zeros in on someone. Obviously that coach won't want their name floated until after their team is either eliminated or they win it all.

I was saving my 10,000th post for this news....

feel bad for him but good for us. Thank You Mr. Hobbs. I am so happy we have a real big time athletic director on board.

Please don't aim middle and shoot low. Aim high and get somebody who is a proven winner at the level of our competition. No more Mid-level experiments. Cannot afford any more of this.

(I am) Making a commitment to put a little extra cash into the program.

Popping in:

This is the first true Rutgers coaching search since 2001 (fifteen years!)!

Remember in 2006: Waters was left and Hill was handed the job.
In 2010: Hill was assured he was keeping his job until later March/early April meltdown which lead to fewer candidates.
2013: Mike Rice scandal... broke in early April... fewer candidates and few people wanted the job.

Onward and upward, but that isn't true. Other, more accomplished coaches were interested in this job.

So sorry for EJ--wanted him to succeed so badly, but his style and those of his assistants were not a good fit for power conference college hoops. Good luck wherever life takes you, and you will always be a great ambassador for the school.

You knew Pat Hobbs being at the game was a bad sign for Jordan, if he even needed one.
It's his job to be at a tournament game, unless there is another more important game going on at the same time. I didn't read into that at all at the time. Tournaments are times to schmooze conference administrators, network executives, advertisers and big boosters.

Eddie may not have been the right guy here, but he was the only one who would take the job for what we were willing to spend. After the Rice fiasco he was handed a sh*t sandwich -- an empty roster, the school's basketball reputation was destroyed, no real player wanted to come here. He got three years to straighten out the mess and he wasn't able to do it on the court. However, the scandal has subsided and the next coach will enter into a better overall situation than Eddie did. In my opinion Eddie is a loyal son who took one for the team and I thank him for that!

...VERY WELL done by Hobbs didn't even waste a day, BUT, didn't fire a distinguished alumni in-season either.

Hurley, Lonergan, the guy from Stony Brook, Cluess, Masiello, Sendek

I am sure there will be mystery candidates just like Hobbs did with football, all the names bandied about and he pulled Ashout of left field

Thank God for Hobbs. He's the man. None of this "one more year" nonsense.

Thank you Eddie for your service. You are a Loyal Son.

Now, let's get moving forward, and bring in a coach who will generate some excitement with the fan base, get the team to play in some sort of structure offense, play hard defense every game, and take advantage of the facilities which are coming our way

Good days are ahead and my prediction is that the right hire will make many people realize the facilities argument is important, but not the #1 issue...the right coach is the most important thing.

Super excited.

Hobbs is a killer. We couldn't have a better AD. Across the board this guy is getting it done.

It's easy enough to fire underperforming coaches (though Julie couldn't do it). By those standards, Gruninger was Hall of Fame. Let's see who he is able to hire for hoops, and don't forget Ash hasn't actually coached a game yet.

Seriously. He should be at the game. I think the last AD victimized people. She wasn't seen too often. The AD should be out and about. Hobbs has been spotted at numerous RU sporting events, as he should be.
