Hobbs stepped on the bus to congratulate the pep band for all their support this season. Frankly, they should get commendation for on most nights being larger than the student section.

Onward and upward, but that isn't true. Other, more accomplished coaches were interested in this job.

Correct, a guy like Howland was interested but RU probably balked at what were likely very reasonable demands from a coach with his track record. And here we are. Again.

Meanwhile, of course MSU will improve and be in the Dance again well before we even start to begin sniffing it.

They didn't know his demands because they never reached out.

Seriously. He should be at the game. I think the last AD victimized people. She wasn't seen too often. The AD should be out and about. Hobbs has been spotted at numerous RU sporting events, as he should be.

All the best to Eddie who is a loyal son of RU. Wished he had got it done.We were all rooting for him .

Is there any possibility that this was originated by President Barchi?
I'm sure he had to approve, guessing that was done last week or even earlier.

Wednesday night I was told that Rutgers has reached out to Kevin Boyle.

I did not post that last night for two reasons, one I don't write for this site and two I didn't want to post something like that since the job wasn't open yet

Reached out like hey you want to chat or reached out and said "here's the job"
Will be interesting to watch. Just do not see a leap of faith that large - when was the last Big Ten coach to come from High School.

If we want to spend the money and make him first assistant - ok

Hurley, Lonergan, the guy from Stony Brook, Cluess, Masiello, Sendek

I am sure there will be mystery candidates just like Hobbs did with football, all the names bandied about and he pulled Ashout of left field

Just not thrilled about Cluess...any of the others are ok. Lonergan is still my favorite.

I would only take this route, assistant first, with a high school coach - and he would be need to be qualified as a coach and bringing a strong recruit with him.

Russ, that's very interesting. How many Monteverde players can he bring with him ?

A LOYAL SON>>>>an iconic Rutgers player>>>a good man

Even worse if that was the case.

Much like the AD search that as co-opted by a certain group, it was Eddie or bust. The timing wasn't great, but there was a dereliction of duty as it related to the search.

Those days are over though. There is a professional in charge.

Is Hobbs all that good? Well, he did hire Kevin Willard and extend his contract. Willard is the Co-Big East Coach of the Year. Not bad.

"Reached out" was all the source texted me.

He is one of my best sources, has only been wrong once in four years. Very plugged in, but is difficult to reach this time of year due to all of the coach firings and player transfers.

I don't think he is monitoring the Rutgers situation closely. He just happens to know Boyle.

Hobbs is a killer. We couldn't have a better AD. Across the board this guy is getting it done.
I appreciate that he got that Eddie wasn't the guy for the job. But that was the easy part. Now comes the hard part. Lots of ADs can fire bad coaches. Few can hire good ones. We hope he did with Ash, but the FB team hasn't suited up for a game yet. And we hope he can with the BB coach. Truth is, we won't know for a few years.

His legacy will be these 2 hires, and the practice facility. Not the firings. Long way to go.

Another nail in your sports curse. Always bad to kill one of your own

He wasn't killed. He was moved to a better place. When one of your kids is failing with no chance for success, do you keep them in that position?

Jordan had not coached college before and was a disaster. I can't see them hiring a coach who has not coached in college again.

If EJ were let go, I was told the school was not looking to just be competitive but to actually be successful in men's bball. We'll see what that means, but I really trust Hobbs to get this hire right. It also sounds like he has both the resources and the tacit approval of the administration to get this done.

It would be cool to have Kevin as first assistant and bring some of that talent here.

Plus I can get free tix again.

I would try for Lonergan, with Boyle as a possibility too. Lonergan can coach. Boyle can recruit and coach and is a risk worth taking.

good luck to Jordan and let's support hobb's choice --however, I don't prefer hurley--it may be more of the same thing
