I just want a coach that prioritizes UK, prioritizes winning, prioritizes wanting to win the SEC/ NCAA tournaments, prioritizes wanting to keep players for more than 1-2 years, I want a coach that can change up a defense when necessary, runs an offense that can get shooters some good looks , a coach that runs good out of bounds plays, and a coach that doesn’t talk down to fans like an arrogant a$$hole.

Weirdly I’m not blown away by Hurley, he has already won 2 championships. How many coaches just keep winning unlimited titles. The guy isn’t John Wooden or Rupp. Eventually people are gonna figure out his system and how big of a jerk he is to his players and it will all balance out. He caught lighting in a bottle for sure but has not done much up until lately. I don’t know why I feel that way but I’d rather beat the guy then have him coach my team.
I don’t think he’s gonna keep winning like that but man his teams have made no mistakes in the tournament for 2 years now, not even challenged.

Man this complete ********. I knew Mitch would totally screw this up.

Oats was the first call but since Bama wouldn’t negotiate to lower the buyout, Mitch ended those talks. Meaning, Mitch wouldn’t pay the $10/18M. That’s inexcusable if he’s your first call.

He’s offered Drew the job and Drew will let them know by tomorrow. Mitch talked to Hurley but he can’t do anything until after the parade Saturday.

So Mitch’s incompetent *** is going to take a coach that isn’t much better than Kal just because he’s friends with him and won’t wait until the weekend to let Hurley decide.

How in the absolute hell to you hire a guy who basically has the same track record of Kal when you haven’t even gotten an answer from the guy whose on the most dominant streak in college basketball in nearly 20 years!?

It’s infuriating and every title Hurley wins at UConn after this year I’ll want to grab Mitch by his damn neck because it should have been us.
I do agree there

Did it ever occur to you that all Hurley is doing is trying to get an offer to get a big raise out of UCONN? He said on Cowherd the other day that his agent told him to stop saying he wasn’t interested in the job.

Also if the Craft family is going to pick up Drew’s family shouldn’t that tell you that Craft is behind this hire? He’s the man with the money and the one who will make UK basketball successful by providing NIL money.

Jones has been wrong about virtually everything so far, don't think he has many sources in the AD left at this point.
I agree. From a pure sports standpoint, I respect him for being a voice that called out Cal. Matt went from riding the team bus to watching it go by. Mitch ain't giving him anything but a cold shoulder.
He gets some good info on football and I think he is buds with Vince Marrow.

If UK announces Scott Drew as the coach today, I do like one aspect of it, and that is Mitch didn't allow Dan Hurley to drag this out to get UConn to pony up money they didn't want to spend on him while he dances around not saying no for 4 days while he works out a deal with them.

Of course he'll get a bump for UConn but it won't be based on UK sending a plane to pick him up

MJ is so desperate to be relevant again it’s disgusting. I’d love if the new coach also saw right through his bs and didn’t give him the time of day either. Kentucky sports/fandom as a whole is such a mess and cess pool right now and a huge reason is those clowns.

Like him or not he’s still relevant in the UK stratosphere. He has the number one radio show. If you mean relevant as an insider than I agree.

in keeping it until a couple of months and then I’ll get it changed. Honoring the good Cal memories for a bit.
Change it to Calpigsooey02 or don’t change it at all. The name was made when he was the coach so who cares really. I’d rather know I’m talking to you than forget you changed your name lol.

It will be interesting to hear your comments after the Duke game next season.
You realize that as of the way it looks right now we may have 1-2 players from this year return right? If you are going to hang on every single game like it is an indication of the coaches ability be prepared to be disappointed no matter who is coaching us.

Potential UK roster pieces if Drew comes here (I'm guessing about 70% of his guys follow him to Lexington).

G - Reed Sheppard - sophomore
G - Travis Perry - freshman
G - VJ Edgecombe - freshman
G - Robert Wright III - freshman
G - Langston Love - junior
G - Jayden Nunn - junior
F - Jason Asemota - freshman
F - Jalen Bridges (5th year senior)
F - Josh Ojilanwuna - junior
C - Noah Boyed - JUCO transfer
C - Yves Missi - sophomore

I like Missi's game. He averaged 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks as a freshman last year. Edgecombe is obviously a future lottery pick. Love was a double-figure scoring guard in their rotation. Wright is a top 25 recruit. Nunn was also a rotation guard. Bridges is legit, and could come back for a 5th year.

Add 2 to 4 in the portal (in addition to some Baylor transfers) and this team could be solid from day one if Reed comes back.

he has a top 10 sports radio show in the COUNTRY........ he's going to be relevant whether you like it or not for a very long time.

Rowland, Sisk, Drummond, and the other UK guys have been wrong about stuff ... and they usually are hearing the same things Matt is meaning the boosters and people under Barnhart in the Administration that talk to people dont know for sure anything ... only barnhart, agents/lawyers, and the coaches know whats going on

There's nothing wrong with making other schools pay what the market will bear to keep their coaches. They'd do the same to us if the roles were reversed. Hurley and Oats especially both deserve big pay increases, and to keep them, Alabama and UConn are going to have to pony up.

This coaching search has been a Rorschach test of sorts for the fanbase. Folks have preconceived ideas about what has or hasn't happened. Verifiable factual information, however, has been in short supply, and certain trolls and self proclaimed media personalities have tossed proverbial spaghetti at the wall attempting to fill airtime. Let's at least see how this plays out over the next few days before we jump to conclusions.

If it means that we reel in Scott Drew along with a top recruiting class and hit the portal hard to fill the roster, that would be an interesting scenario. If we go in a different direction, I'd like to see Mitch bring in a younger up and coming coach at a more reasonable salary level, with more focus on performance based incentives. There's also other possibilities that maybe only few outside of the UKAD office are even considering.

I've been a vocal critic of MB for some time, but until more facts are known and we have a better grasp on how the situation plays out, I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt. We've got to show some patience and think about this from different perspectives.

All of this Matt Jones hate is really unwarranted. The guy does have connections on the football side as you hear after big wins when the big dog calls in and even coach stoops does as well.

I’m sure there are some that are involved with the basketball side of things that he talks to as well just no one really knows what Mitch is doing as Mitch is known for keeping things very close to the vest.

I live in Florida and his site is the only way I’ve kept up with what’s going on with the cats.

This thread is comical. It's as if all of you run major corporations or understand how searches for the new CEO actually occur. God forbid a major sports coach search.

Good grief. You have NO idea how many guys are contacted through agents, trusted advisors, and/or the dude himself. As someone who is friends with an NBA agent, we are privy to about 2% (maybe less) of what goes on in sports outside of what we see on tv.

It sounds to me like Mitch has done what he can here. Hurley has a parade Saturday and y'all are pissed he hasn't accepted a job from UK by now, it's ridiculous. He's clearly going to use this opportunity to get as much as UConn can possibly afford. I believed the only shot UK had at getting Hurley was Purdue winning the title the other night.

Hurley was likely never coming here to begin with. UK is being used so Hurley can get to around 8-9 mill from UConn. The drew stuff is up and down, if what Baylor people are saying is true and his family didn’t seem convinced, then I don’t see the hire working out. Billy donavon is a massive gamble that could turn into a massive success depending on how things work out

The AD doesn’t have to budge on a buyout at all, there is a reason the number was high to begin with
Signing a contract doesn't make someone a slave with no recourse. Sure, bama could sue him, but if wants to leave, not sure how an AD can prevent that. Of course, this is assuming Oats wants the Kentucky job.
