I don’t want to sneeze at Sumrall’s excellent record as a head coach but I don’t at all feel like his style is what we need. I believe it would be more of the same. Grind it out, play defense, be totally ineffective on offense against good teams, ceiling of 7 or 8 wins.

Ok. So what do we have against him? I have not seen Troy play this year, but to me it looks like a D1 coach who has done more with less and been very successful so far.

Would probably be really good if you were trying to recruit Madison county and the surrounding areas. But to answer your question age and lack of p5 experience.

I understand the P5 part, but I guess that part doesn’t bother me at this point. At least in my lifetime, we haven’t gone this route before. We have hired various coordinators or position coaches without much success going back to the Felker days. The only success story was Mullens.

The D1 (P5 today) coaches have been JWS and Emory. Emory resigned from 8&4 for losing before coming to State and got fired for losing here. Not a big fan of retreads that were fired for losing unless there were extenuating circumstances.

So, assuming we cant get a Big Game Bob type of HC from a P5 program, maybe we need to do things a little different as the track record of going after coordinators just because of P5 experience hasn’t exactly been stellar.

Not sure he would fit in here. All he does is win. So much winning. Yuge. Not a very explosive offense but they do put up points and yards.

Did you all not listen to Selmon. Basically, said if it doesn't come from him then it's not true and the next time, he speaks about it he will announce who it is. Again, Selmon might be more stealth than the Ninja. He might be the one throwing all these curve ball out there to keep the media off his ***.
