What’s his arc now besides possibly being the King? This whole series has been him leading to this battle against the dead, and now it’s over. Him and Cersei/Mountain have no deep connection, like Jaime/Tyrion/Sansa/Arya or even Dany. What’s left of Jon these next three episodes? He’s the biggest character on the show and I have no idea what the big climatic Jon story will be

The Jon - Daenerys relationship is pretty compelling. He's rightful king, and him being king is best for Westeros given the North drama, so he's sort of reluctantly on board. But she's probably not going to want to give it up, and how crazy is she going to be to keep the crown. Would she kill Jon, Sam, and Bran after she defeats Cersei? Wondering if the last line in the show is going to be her as queen saying "Burn them all."

The easy solution would be for Jon and Dany to marry. The more practical one would be for Queen Dany to recognize The North as a sovereign state, with Jon being King in the North. In the books they constantly talk about how the main reason for so many conflicts is that the Seven Kingdoms as one unit is just too damn big to effectively rule. The North is as large as all the other kingdoms combined.

I'm thinking Jon dies protecting Dany in some sort of way. She is pregnant with his child and gives birth and dies during the birth or something. The child is on throne. Arya protects the child.

Not really a good setup for marriage.

Crazy prediction: Jon, Daenerys, and Cersei all die, Tyrion inherits the throne as Cersei's brother, and remarries Sansa to shore up the North. Tyrion and his descendants rule competently.

Not I actually expect this, but it would be a way to get a compelling story and happy ending.

I'm with you on this one. I was thinking the same and that is about as unpredictable as it comes.

All sorts of ways they can still go with it....

1) Cersei / Golden Company kill Dany, Jon takes vengeance and the throne.

2) Jon dies in the battles with Golden Company / Team Cersei. Dany takes vengeance and the throne

3) Jon / Dany both survive to the end, overthrowing Cersei. Dany takes the throne, Jon becomes Warden of North, King of the North, etc. This requires Jon to bury the secret of his rightful claim to the throne.

4) Same as scenario 3 above, but Dany and Jon rule together.

5) Dany, in a jealous rage of Jon’s rightful claim to the throne, begins to become mad like her Daddy. She kills Jon to prevent his taking of the throne.

6) Same as scenario 5 above, but Jon fends off / kills Mad Queen.

The key point is that the whole series has not led up to the battle with the NK. It was trending that way before the middle of Season 7, but the budding romance with Dany and his true bloodline being revealed made his scope much larger than the champion to defeat the dead.

There is no such thing as “rightful king” after there has been conquest.... that’s what the show keeps having me scratch my head about.

I always thought Jon would go back to the wall when it was over, but I didn’t think the WW threat would ever be totally neutralized though.

You’re right that the whole series hasn’t been leading up to the NK, but Jon’s whole series has. It’s been leading up to it since the first episode

Until the middle / end of season 7, that was true. But after that point it was no longer the case.

Don't forget Arya may now be with child from Gendry and the Baratheon line.

For me I think there is something still out there with the direwolves. It would bring the series full circle to the opening chapters of the books.

Well, with no Dothraki, very few unsullied, and 2 hurt dragons she is going to need an army to fight Cersei, at this point only Jon Snow can command whats left after the long night and I expect he will gather more men as they march south. Daenerys lost almost everything regarding military power in the last episode and now needs Jon more than he needs her.

I don't think the shows are going to line up with the books at this point. I think GRRM will make a point to create a difference between the books and show.

I've got a feeling he's still got a big role to play. And he's already spread the word about his lineage. Also, we don't know what all he told Tyrion in their one on one chat session.

And, it is through him that House Targaryen survives, right? I was under the impression that Dany can't produce an heir.

That's what Daenerys believes, but who knows if it's true or not.

The key here is that the story has never really been about the living vs the dead. The houses and the kingdoms are the story with the night king being a sub-plot, a large sub-plot, but a sub-plot all the same. Jon’s story arc is far from complete. I’m still not sure how they wrap this whole thing up in three episodes.

What you say is true as it compares to all of Westeros houses that would try to take the throne. See Cersei ripping up her late husband’s declaration to make Ned Stark the king until his rightful heir came of age. But, Jon is the rightful king strictly within the Targaryen bloodline (assuming it is he and Jon together that conquer the Lannisters). So, there very well could be huge friction between him and Dany. That’s what I think OP was referring to.

That’s what I’m saying though. Dany/Jon have to conquer their way to the throne. So there is no “birthright” involved in something that must be taken by force. He’s already pledged to her partially/mostly because of her superior force. We’ll see where it goes now, but given where we are at this moment, that he doesn’t actually give a **** about obtaining power, I don’t see the conflict unless she goes psycho and he has to protect the realm from her...
