In all fairness, K was a nobody when Duke hired him. A couple of mediocre seasons at Army.
Still, I don't look for Scheyer to stick around long if Duke wants to remain a powerhouse. I guess it's possible he surprises and does well, I don't personally see it but who knows.
The most interesting thing about K's announcement is we will see if and how Duke endures. Unlike UK, Kansas, and UNC - all of which have endured multiple coaching eras and have maintained elite status decade after decade. While they had some marginal success before K (under Vic Bubas), Duke basketball was essentially founded and built by K. They haven't yet had the opportunity to face the test of time. This is their equivalent of when Rupp retired. We kept the train rolling. Will Duke? Do they even care? We shall see.
