I have a group of 30-40 RU fans coming to tailgate- we were originally going to do the RAC but now doing Johnson Park. Will I need to buy multiple spots for that many people? Will Johnson park be too packed for my group? We're also hoping to set up a canopy, grill, drinks, etc.

Appreciate the help!

Right but I can bring a second car if it will be too packed to fit that many people in an area for one car
Yeah I'm sure you can. You obviously would have to just pay for two cars. But in all honesty who cares go there enjoy your tailgate and drink. Hope you enjoy Johnson park never been there but heard that atmosphere is awesome

You get room behind each car you bring. If your planning on getting a car or two and than having 30 people in one spot they will shut it down.
For 30/40 people I assume your gang is coming in 6 or 7 cars. If that's the case you should all arrive together and will be able to park next to each other. They will not let you hold a spot for someone coming later.

When I was a student there would be tailgates that students hop from one to another, and at times the tailgates would easily have over 20 people and there was never any problem

30 or 40 people behind one or two cars?? No that will be a problem if they are there all day. This is run by the county. The same county where the police hassle everyone.

can you think of any other event you've ever been to that this would be allowed? There is your answer

Chill out, just trying to get info. No need to get all worked up on a message board.

Appreciate the help from everyone else. Will possibly move our tailgate to RAC if that is more amenable.

For 20-30 people I would do 2 cars for sure and try and get an end spot too for that many people.

Obviously you want to be in one of the main lots - yellow, blue, scarlet or purple for the best tailgating. You can still buy a pass to one of those lots.

Not sure how RAC stacks up against Johnson park but might be worth it to do Johnson.

Guess what Johnson Park is a Park! there are area that have tables and open fields. You do not need to stay in the parking lot area.

For that large a tailgate your better off at the RAC where you have room to spread out over Johnson Park where its cramped.

How are you getting an end spot???. You can't park where you want. They direct you to the next spot.
The days of 30 people behind a single car or two are over. Obviously you haven't been paying attention to this board and all the complaints/observations about the police clearing the isles the past few seasons.

I've been parking in Johnson Park for just about every game for the past three years and have never seen any sort of police in the aisles. Those complaints are generally about the blue and yellow lots I believe. At Johnson Park, I have only ever seen police at the entrance. Thirty people behind two cars is a lot though. I think they'll need more space than that.

Are fans allowed to tailgate with grill/drinks in those areas?
I'm not sure if this helps answer your question, but my group spends part of the tailgate in the park playing a drinking game that requires more space than a typical tailgate parking spot, so you can definitely bring drinks outside of the parking lot, not sure about a grill though.

Is this your first tailgate? I'm not being a jerk, I'm asking honestly. 30 people for a first timer is going to be stressful. Good luck.

There's also the UMDNJ Lot where you'd have more room to spread out, and isn't a police state.
