Now that RU has its coach in place we can start looking to next season. We all know that Johnny Langan is tough as nails and is great competitor, but we have also seen his short comings as a passer. I am not sure if his throwing motion can be corrected so that his passing improves, but I could certainly see Johnny becoming RU's version of Taysom Hill. You have packages designed for him where he takes the direct snap and runs from a power formation. You can snap it to him(from that power formation) and he could certainly pass the ball, or you could line him up as a receiver and run patterns(people talked about him becoming a tight end). I just don't see him as the fulltime QB going forward, but he could still be a very valuable piece of the offensive puzzle.

remember Ray Lucas in the NFL? Was a QB that became a receiver.

DC jefferson became a TE and got some time in the NFL

Did he ever see the field as a receiver in the NFL? He saw the field a lot on special teams and as the wild cat QB. He did well enough in the wild cat situations that Parcels gave him a chance as the regular QB when Bommer got hurt, and he had a fantastic season for the Jets.

He’s earned the right to be in the QB room and to compete with Sit and whoever we bring in through transfer.

To be “in the mix,” for sure...but then it’s “Bruce Koskilowski, University of San Francisco, TIGHT END” time IMHO.

Johnny tough and a welcome program member. Yes find him a role.

That being said, in just the few passes we saw Cole throw, wouldn't you have wanted to see more of a chance- especially in the lopsided games? Seems like the kid can throw and that was something really needed. No knock on all Johhnny did and he would be a great change of pace wildknight type/taysom hill etc, but dont see very down qb.

I think he'd be a great move tight end or H-back. wouldn't have to put on too much more weight and can take full advantage of mismatches.

If, a two back O, he's the fullback. Otherwise, a TE, IMHO.
He’s a football player. Almost like a throwback to another era — guys wearing leather helmets playing on both sides of the ball, etc.

I really hope he converts to TE (or FB as suggested above) because he would be a huge weapon for us.

If someone could fix his throwing mechanics he could be a good QB. Of course, that is a big IF.

I like this concept.

Didn't he leave BC because they wanted him to be a TE?
I would hope that, now that he had a legitimate shot to show what he can do, passing-wise plus ability to see the field and pass defenders, he will consider a change of position.

Either that or he gets with a solid QB/passing coach in the off-season and works his butt off on throwing motion, footwork and somehow his peripheral vision (at times he threw the ball directly in the path of a defender, as if he were blind to their presence).

His decision-making also needs improvement but that could be more about youth and inexperience at this level, which should get better over time.

Agree with OP. I would like him in the goal line package, 5 wide and him alone in the backfield to clear out the box, he is good at picking the holes and falls forward.
