I don't think I want to meet your old man. What was his issue?
I don't know what his pop's issue was but the Raiders weren't a warm and fuzzy team back then. They were the Klingons of the NFL. It was under Madden where they really became known as gang of edgy and moody sketchers. "The Assassin" Jack Tatum, Skip “Dr. Death” Thomas, and Willie Brown were "The Soul Patrol" and a feared set of nasty DBs that wanted WRs to seriously fear them. They were evocative of that "Longest Yard" team. Raiders were having actual brawls with KC (one of the likeable teams opposite Raiders). Even though I liked Madden as a broadcaster, I was a little undecided about him as a coach considering Raiders vibe.

This was my fav Madden game call - look at all those grass stains. Those were fun days ...

No - he was a mild NY Giant fan who didn't really even follow other teams. The Jets used to hold summer camp in my town and he didn't even care about them a little lol

definitely made his mark, was a great personality, great color guy, competitor, terrific coach, class guy. He kept the phone from the sidelines when he got the call the immaculate reception was a touchdown and had it made into a plaque. He was always sore on that one.

RIP. he will be remembered by millions as a HOF coach. He will be remembered by another group of millions as one f the best announcers of professional football who made games exciting g just by his commenting on it. Finally he will be remembered by another group as then one behind ok e of the most played video games. Crazy arc of a career
Probably best known for the video games now . That will live on

One good thing about no live sports for four months in spring/summer of 2020 was every now and then NFL Network would rebroadcast a game from years ago that Madden and Summerall did

That doc was a suggestion the end was near.

RIP
Madden was such a personality and his popularity has spanned decades and generations. His spirit will be carried on and his name will continue to be relevant with all as long as the video game is prodeuced.

When the news came out, initial reports were of a sudden and unexpected death. I am amazed when a man of his size makes it to 85.

A little O.T. here. Watched the tributes to Madden at halftime of MInn./WVU.
Somebody needs to tell both Len Berman and Bob Costas that their dye jobs look pretty silly. Embrace the aging process fellas. It's not that bad.

I was watching NFL run programs about Madden teams.
NJ's own Phil Villapiano was explaining how Raiders had the best trainer because he was good at using plaster of paris to mold shims into players arm pads so they could really wallop other players.

That was the 70s Raiders

Madden was ahead of his time. He was talking about concussions in 1993, 22 years before Will Smith and his CONCUSSION movie blew the topic into the forefront.
