No way! He'd dribble thru the key and keep on going. I loved it when he was on the floor against us. Offensively, it's 4-5 when he is on the floor. We need every player to be a capable offensive player if we don't have a stud or 2.

Which proves that Toussaint could do the same. On Iowa he was the 8th option.
On this team next year you need someone that did the type of things Geo did....take 3's, go 1-1 on the perimeter, drive and finish or drive and pull-up from mid-range.

Toussaint can't come close to doing any of those things.

The kid is short and can't score. WTF why don't we just start our walkons at that point. He stinks. Let him finish his career at Manhattan.

I think you forgot who our head coach is and he only likes defending. We don’t need shooters bud

People have to stop thinking every team will be put together like the last 2-3 years. We were those teams because those were the players we had. Cliff would excel with a true PG and it would allow Paul to further develop a complimentary game.

Comparing Toussaint to walk ons and somehow getting a couple likes lol. Ridiculous
Comparing him to Caleb is off base too though. You could’ve said that Toussaint’s defense would’ve replaced JY’s defense 2 years ago without providing his offense. That would be a much better parallel.

You could also probably say that - Toussaint could replace Geo’s defense with some drop off on offense. Geo’s defense was always underrated - he was never flashy, but we didn’t miss JY at all on defense in traditional half court sets this season. We missed his explosiveness the other way.

We can’t replace Caleb’s defense with a PG. Full stop. Caleb is a 6-7 kid who rarely
wasn’t one of our top 3 rebounders in a game. His ability to switch in game flow 1-4 on help defense is tremendous and a big help in masking some of Paul’s defensive shortcomings. Paul is a weird defensive player - really good at some things. Gets exposed on others. Without playing alongside a kid like Caleb, I worry that we’re going to have some major defensive gaps there. I don’t see Joe helping with that though. He doesn’t have enough length.

Joe T is a good fit for Pike, but doesn't exactly fit what this particular roster needs.

We could definitely do worse though

Ya sorry it was DanPR - I responded to the wrong one. yours was the walk on comparison which is fair. Toussaint is much better than a walk on. I was disagreeing with the comment about replacing Caleb’s defense. I don’t see that from Toussaint. I’m not optimistic we’d be able to bring in any single plug and play guy who could fill that void.

Mag has the stength, length, and quickness to be a lock down on ball defender, but Caleb was DPOY so its obviously not something you can just replace

You don't look to replace it. You get better in other areas. I think next year's team will be fine defensively and I think they will work harder and get more loose balls and rebound better.

I’m not sure what your basing that on - unless your assuming either Caleb returns or we get strong defensive players in the portal. Even if your assuming Mag plays 30+ minutes, he’d only be replacing 1 if 3 starters, the rest of our bench outside of Miller was really not good this year on defense. I don’t see Miller getting much additional time from what he got this year unless he develops some offense. I’m all about defense first, but defense “only” doesn’t translate to 20+ mpg on any roster.

Pike’s teams always have played good D, even when we lose good defensive players. I expect 30+% of our minutes played by guys not on roster now. I expect the hustle and intensity to be higher next year.

Have to see who is on the rosters in order to predict what the defense will look like in my opinion. Right now, the bulk of returning minutes are from 2 starters who’d probably be classified as serviceable defenders. Yes, that includes Cliff. He’s had some good moments but there were also plenty of games like ND where he struggled on the defensive end.
