1st- the guy that saw it, period, is the one that should have made sure this was taken care of. HE saw it! So did a janitor a few years before that never reported it. There's the first mistake.<div>

Even Jesus doesn't forgive those who don't admit their wrongdoing and ask for forgiveness. Paterno has not taken any responsibility for what he allowed to happen and certainly hasn't shown any remorse. You certainly have the right to your opinion but I just don't see any reason to be merciful or understanding in this situation.

I haven't seen one shred of remorse from Paterno. Therefore, he's either incapable of the feeling or he's a cancer on humanity (I'm not buying the "I was ignorant of the entire situation" argument). There's a reason Hell exist.

I know you are going to say "what about the times didn't do something because of lack of faith like in Nazareth?"- Jesus still loved the people no matter what. He didn't hold their sin against them. Jesus didn't hold grudges against people.

What Jerry Sandusky did to those children was horrible and disgusting. How Joe Paterno handled the situation was wrong and likely regretable for him. But it is for God to judge them, and he will.

I'll chime in ... why not, it's Sunday. Not really a theologian, either, for what it's worth.

In response to what you're saying about having to ask for forgiveness and be aware of wrongdoing, a lot of people (e.g. Presby/Reformed) would point to Ephesians 2:4-7, which says that grace is a gift from God that man could do nothing to earn because he was "dead in our trespasses", and that this grace is the only grace that matters. It's a longstanding disagreement, though, as to what our response to that grace should be, and whether a certain response is necessary for forgiveness/salvation/etc.

Hyper-Calvinism from the traditional standpoint is with regard to limited atonement ("the 5th point"). The idea that any response/repentance is an effect of salvation and not a cause of it follows from depravity, though, which is central to every form of Calvinism I've ever heard articulated; but again, I'm not claiming to be very well-versed on it - just chiming in.

ETA: Not that there's anything wrong with being hyper-Calvinist. I just don't agree that the idea is hyper-Calvinist in the traditional sense, for whatever that's worth.
