He is putting something together in New York. Going into Seattle and beating Russell Wilson with that roster is some kind of coaching. The transformation they have made throughout the season is remarkable.

Happy for him, but kinda wondering what might have been. Not sure if he could recruit, but he can sure as hell coach em up.

I agree with all points. The Giants are playing hard. He's obviously able to get everyone engaged.

Just texted my dad almost exactly the same thing. Beating the Seahawks with the Giants roster alone is something, but doing it without Jones and Barkley is pretty incredible. They've really only been blown out once this year, and they're 5-2 in their last 7. I'm looking forward to seeing what Leach does here, but it would've been fun to see what Judge would put together at State

Judge’s story is already written...

He was 12 hours or so from being our coach, BUT... we’re Mississippi State....he’s the next Belichick.

Very few NFL coaches make it 5-7 years at one stop. Especially in NY. If Judge is great, he will obviously do that. But all of these coaches are an injury or two away of being blamed for a horrendous season. Judge is plenty young enough to have success in NY and still come to Starkville. Would be awesome to see Saban retire and us make a hire like that the same year. I can dream, right?

Haha I had this same thought within minutes of him being announced as the giants next coach. Just another what if in Mississippi States football history

I posted this the night of the SC game, that if people had not been paying attention to the Giants, they would be shocked how hard they play for him. AND without their best player. That doesnt sound like much of an issue, playing hard, guys that can step in there on day 1 and demand attention/respect of pro's that likely have an older sibling in same age range asa JJ is special. Thankfully a few of the posters were able to correct me, but man, do I feel dumb.

He could win the next 10 Super Bowls. It still doesn’t mean he’d be worth a 17 coaching at MSU. NFL is a completely different animal than SEC football, every team has the same resources. As of right now, he has a worse winning percentage than Mike Leach at MSU, even when coaching in an environment where he isn’t thoroughly outclassed by at least 50% of his competition in terms of money, prestige, and....most importantly...talent. Dude has literally zero on-field coaching or recruiting experience at the college level. It would have been a disaster if we hired him.

Imagine this board if Judge was our coach and we only had 2 wins, or fewer. Cohen is catching enough hell for hiring an experienced head coach.

I'm not saying Judge would have failed, we just have no idea what he would have done. We dont know who his coordinators would have been, or even what his roster would have looked like.

We will never know what would have been. Really difficult to translate success or lack of success in the pros to what a coach would do in college. Its really apples and oranges. Saban, Spurrier and Holtz were all great college coaches that either struggled or washed out in the pros and then you have a guy like Jim Harbaugh who was actually quite successful in the NFL that can't even get Michigan into the upper level of the Big 10.

We do not have to recruit top 15 year in and year out to compete at a high level.

Depends on what your definition of “a high level” is. If the only requirement of “high level” is 6-8 wins per year and 5th or 6th in the West just about every year (the Mullen status quo), then yes, you are correct.

That's where you're wrong, buddy. I'm not trying to argue semantics, but we will absolutely have to get higher than top 25-30, which is where we've been for the last decade. That's a recipe for a 7 win average in a typical 12 game SEC West schedule. That's fine, and many are happy with that, but that's not what I consider competing at a high level.

Strong rumor was that Will Hall was going to be OC.
