The way he was treated by Husker fans is one of if not the most disappointing times to call myself a husker fan.
Callahan threw him right under the bus, and duped fans in lust with the WCO were quick to do burnouts all over him. **** Bill Callahan. Cant believe he ever coached here, give me riley over that turd any day.

Jammal Lord was also mistreated by fans but not quite as bad. Hes one of the most underrated unappreciated Huskers ever though.

Both he and Daily seem to be stand up dudes despite their treatment.

I can't remember those days that well, but I do remember, being excited at first for Bill Callahan's offense. I went to his first game as coach, and all the movement before the snap got me excited. (oops). I also remember lots of hate for Lord and people asking to put Dailey in. If I'm wrong, please correct me. I was 14-or 15 at the time.

I remember both fondly, especially lord. Both are Huskers for life, and I think its awesome Dailey is having some success as a coach.

I was at a couple games in 2003, and remember the booing of lord, along with a couple behind me telling him to break his leg to get Joe in

Some people suck. I was hoping I was wrong. Though when I go to games I still hear some people be absolutely dumb, or mean. The worst I think was when this old lady kept saying there was targeting on EVERY single play.

But on the other side of things, I saw a father tell his son they would leave if he kept saying things about penalties that weren't correct. It wasn't mean, and it was totally awesome. I hope most of our fans are like this.

But now I'm getting pretty far off the subject, so I'll shut up.

Kind of ironic because when Joe was hired Cosgrove was still on staff at New Mexico. I have now seen that Cos is a head defensive analyst for LSU. WTH, don't know how much input an analyst will have on that staff but I look for the LSU defense to take a step back this year with him being involved. Also I would expect New Mexico's defense to make some strides in the right direction this year. Cos had been the DC there, but was demoted before he left for LSU.

Hope it works out for Joe, coming in to a tough situation, Davie has had a couple rough seasons at New Mexico and is on the hot seat. There are a lot of former Husker QB's that have coaching gigs around the country going back to Mike Grant and Mickey Joseph.

No way. I remember Lord being treated way worse that Dailey. I think people understood Daily wasn't close to a fit for Callahan's system which is why he didn't get blasted.

Dailey wasn't a fit for ANY offensive system. He was not a good QB.

I hate to say this, but I was at the first game too and distinctly remember the oos and ahhs with the shifting, along with a tall skinny guy Ill never forget who acted like a kid seeing santa. Kept sayind stuff like welcome to the 20th century and stuff like that. I left disgusted and knew it wouldnt work out, and cally throwin Joe under sealed the deal for me.
I love Husker fans, I do believe we are the best fans in sports. But at that game I lost the whole “smartest fans in football” cliche and it has never returned. Our support of the program is unparalleled, but we are no smarter as a fan base than any other.

The people I noticed, for the most part, did not.
But there were some, yes, of course.
Im not going to argue who got treated worse they both got some shaft. Lords criticism made me angry sometimes, people somehow didnt notice he played behind the worst O Line and worst backfield sine the 60s.
Lord was a special talent. He was damn good and without him it would have been armageddon.

Analyst is going to break down the film that was brokendown by the GA's...that is really about it.

Picture it like this...all the defensive staff members will be in a decent sized room going over the film...they will be drinking red bulls and (beers) other stuff...they will all be talking about players and plays that see and they will be saying things like "Back in '03 we saw a play similar to this...we did XYZ to counter it"

That is about it.

Highly disagree. He would have fit in some offenses.
Please tell me which ones. He was bad in Frank's and Callahan's and he was so bad at his next stop that they switched him to DB. Good guy. Not a good QB anywhere he played. I'll stop there because I know more about the guy than my mom would want me to say. If you can't say anything nice about a guy, don't say it I guess.

LSU will be fantastic on defense this year.

Yeah, DII offenses maybe..... blaming Callahan for his terrible play is sad.

Callahan's offenses were smoke and mirrors. He is remembered by some as some type of offensive genius, but he wasn't. His offenses almost never showed up against teams that were actually good. I'm not saying Joe was a good QB, but Callahan should absolutely take the blame that season for trying to fit Joe into an offense that he had no business running.

Callahan is also one of two NU head coaches in the last 60ish years that has the dubious honor of leading NU to not only 1, but 2 losing seasons in his tenure. Not only that, but he never gave a **** about NU while he was here. It was likely going to be a stepping stone to his next head coaching job in the NFL. He was an arrogant prick, imo.

You and I agree on many things, but I'm going to disagree with you on this one. I did not love Lord. I wanted to try anyone else. I felt that he didn't have the leadership tangibles to lead the team. Some have it and I felt that Lord did not.

As for Daily, sucks to be him. He was not going to run Cally's offense well. I loved Zac Taylor, though. I never hated Callahan. I just don't think he was really good as the CEO part of the job as he was with the X's and the O's.

Vince Lombardi could have coached JD, it wouldn't have mattered.

"Nebraska outgained Southern Miss 476-239. Didn’t matter. In the final minute, trailing 21-17, Joe Dailey famously ran out of bounds after a 10-yard gain ... on fourth-and-15. It was that kinda day."

Enough said. Joe Dailey not a good fit for any offense.

Jamal Lord would have at least put his head down and stayed inbounds.

Someone beat me to it, I was gonna say.... offensive coordinator.... what’s the play call for running out of bounds on 4th down? There have been a lot of wtf moments in the last couple decades, that one is near the top.

I think the real WTF moment in that game was...What the ****? Why is NU getting their *** beat by SMiss?

I think this is 95% of the Dailey vitriol...running out of bounds on our final offensive play. I would have been very interested to see how he developed in the Solich-Cotton scheme.

I met BC at a Husker event in Sioux City the summer after he was hired. I came into the room and he was talking to a couple big Husker supporters. I stopped at the bar got a drink and turned around and BC had gone into a coat check room by himself. He saw me and sheepishly looked at me. I asked if I could get him a drink. He said no he just needed some time. Knew right then Nebraska wasn't for him.

Well...he didn't want the job...he took it just to take it and get paid...He knew the drill...

Option one: Take job, make bank, get canned, go to NFL
Option two: Take job, make bank, do great, go to NFL
