Hey like most Americans, I don't want to see an open border. But for the life of me, I have no idea why the republicans are willing do battle over this silly wall when they aren't willing to fight for improved health care (most Americans want this), improved infrastructure and transportation, or a solution to the social security/medicare issue.

For Trump's ego. Plain and simple. The majority of actual border hawks (not Trump Cultists) have long maintained that the wall/barrier is a waste. Strengthen E-Verify, strengthen penalties for employers, revamp legal immigration process, VISAs, etc, etc.
