I’ve Googled and came up empty but is there any video of JJ and Bill Kalkbrenner in ‘74 where they had the fight and the match? Was my 1st match in Iba and great to say the least.

I think it was Kalkbrenners brother from the stands actually. If it happened now it would be on all the news outlets.

Iba ... what are you talking about? I don't remember any such place and why would they wrestle in such named place? Maybe why Google couldn't help you. ;)

Karl Kalkbrenner sucker punched JJ and I think Darell Gofourth put the form tackle on Karl. It was a melee after that for several minutes.

The guy in my row unfurled the “Sit Down Able!” banner and as a teenager I was so proud to get to hold it with him.

How can there not be any video of Jackson wrestling. It seems like that every match I've watched has had a student assistant or the like setting mat-side with some sort of video recording device. Surely they didn't just throw all that video away. I would pay a considerable amount of money on the recordings of Sheets, Monday, the Smiths and Jackson. I've always wondered about this.

Hopefully this link works….It’s not JJ, but it’s a great memory of mine!

Small glimpse of JJ in intro.

I was there for that one. Absolute pandemonium that carried into Jackson's match. I thought the roof was going to come off from the noise when Jimmy pinned his guy. My ears rang for quite a while. Taylor's crew is inching our way back toward those great times. Keeping my fingers crossed we get there soon.

...was there..............high up almost to the top...........after Monasmith won, it was so loud that you could hold your arms out and they would "wave" in the vertical from the volume and intensity of the noise from below...........light tubes broke raining down.......JJ approached the mat and backed off with his hands over his ears...........a little later JJ very quickly pinned the heavy..... between Monasmith's WIN and his pin were the only way we could win the Big 8...............greatest single event in the history of OSU from all respects.......best to all.............rs

Those were the days that wrestling would go our way. It sure seems like a long time since wrestling went our way. My hope is that the wrestling world goes back to turning right.

“Those days” were a few years into our longest title drought (following Chesbro’s first year until Seay won) until now so I hope we’re aiming for higher. We had a ton of talent and were usually pretty close to Iowa but couldn’t get it done. OU had a run where they were really close too, as was ISU. Jimmy Jackson was a beast.
