Texas is the best football state for getting coached up offensive players who can play right off the bat. They are already a finished product for the most part, no real upside. On the defensive side of the ball....the real athletes in Texas high school ball don't play defense.

One thing they don’t teach much of in those Texas high schools in football any more is defense or toughness. Lot of high flying offense but not a lot of speed and strength on defense.

In the 2020 NFL draft there were 36 Texas high school players drafted. More than half on defense.

There are 191 current NFL players from Texas. 94 offense, 86 defense, 11 special teams.

In the current 247 Texas high school recruiting rankings 7 of the top 10 and 17 of the top 25 are defensive players.

I would say there is plenty of defensive talent in TX.
