I'm personally skeptical, and so am reserving both judgment and comment.
We hired a former big ten head coach of the year, what more do you want ?
Yet in some respects you both judged and commented.
Labels and accolades aren't everything. I'm not questioning whether Kill was a B1G CoY. I'm questioning the hire - the fit. I don't think it's a fit. JMO.

Someone healthy enough to finish the season perhaps. The guy a great coach but already stepped down due to health issues. He missed games due to health issue 4 out of the last 5 seasons he coached. Can you count on him not to have a seizure in a tight ball game? On top of that he hasn't been an OC in 24 years.
At face value, it looks like a good hire. According to the article he is the only one who has been interviewed. Ash apparently knew who he wanted and went after him.
I can't believe he would have even considered a return to the sidelines without checking it out with his doctors. Also, one would think Ash spoke at length about the issue with him and is apparently convinced that health is not an issue
Like the hire. But honestly no one knows if it's a good one of not until we start playing games!

He just made it through a full season.
The, "he hasn't been an OC in 24 years" comments are laughable.
He has been managing epilepsy though diet. There is a fairly well-researched diet that those prone to epileptic seizures follow with great success.

Kill left behind a strong program at Minnesota, as his replacement, Tracy Claeys, went 8–4 this season with the players Kill and his staff recruited. "

Kill has shed about 25 pounds, exercising and sticking to a low-carb diet designed for epilepsy patients. He works from about 8 a.m., to 8 p.m., these days, and only Kill could view a 12-hour workday as “slowing down.”

I like his haircut much better than the previous OC. Will the QBs try to imitate it?
That great for him but he hasn't been put in a pressure situation which in the past has been a cause of many of his seizures. Will he put back in the weight and continue to eat right when putting in the football hours. A lot of questions remain

He was working 12 hour days at Kansas State. How do you know what caused his seizures? Are you his doctor? Or just tend to look at the worst side of things when it comes to Rutgers?

Unreal hire. could save the Ash era. That is how good of a hire this would be. Kill is by far the best coach on this staff. including ash. Kudos to Ash for not being afraid to make this move.
I really like this hire. His job will not only be play calling but finding solutions to the offensive woes. You can't trust a 28 year old to do this. I truly believe that mehringer was talented however not the answer to Rutgers problems.
Health problems were probably addressed and Jerry K passed without a hitch or would have been offered a position as a consultant instead.
I don't know if he has run a power spread offense but with his type of experience as a HC bet he will be able to run it more smoothly than Mehringer did and help Ash grow as a HC.
He's only 55 and probably will stay at least 2 years even if he starts wanting to be a HC again. In my opinion , it will take 2 years ( maybe 3) for CFB programs to be conformable enough about his health to seriously consider him for their HC position.
Kill also might not want to be one again and plan to stay at RU as long as he feels happy as its OC.

keto is nuclear, low carbs can be just that without ketosis...ketosis is used for certain peds patients mostly
will be interesting. he would be fine for long periods but at the end the longer he coached the worse it seemed to get. seemed like stress was a problem as well. he stepped away for a year and i am sure he feels great now but it will be interesting to see if things change for him in the middle of the season. health is the only question mark in this hire

Are you a doctor or dietician? There is overlap. In my experience, a properly followed low carb diet induces ketosis. As I understand it, the ketogenic diet takes the low carb diet a step further and has required ratio of fat/protein. I don't know what diet Jerry Kill is specifically following, but studies have shown that a ketogenic diet can be more effective than medicine in treating pediatric epilepsy.
yeah that's true, but getting into ketosis is the trick, just pointing out that low carbs alone is not necessarily ketogenic. Seen it used in kids but it is uncommon in adults, I wonder if he is on a med, too.
