Do you also understand they were drawing up X's & O's for professional players.

yes, we want pro's like Penny Hardaway, Sam Mitchell, and Mike Miller to prep these high level recruits for their futures as NBA players...

Grace, agree that Memphis under Cal was the golden years & no one does it like Cal. He was a master marketer of the school & the basketball program, as well as a great recruiter. He has been impossible for us to replace. You have to admit, however, that he has underachieved with the talent that he has had. That being said, your time is coming in the next few years when Cal will retire, getting tired of dealing with your obnoxious & holier than thou fanbase. In the meantime, he may have to change some of his recruiting tactics with the current FBI investigations that are ongoing. I understand your tradition as a great basketball program & y’all will get a good coach, but no one will be able to follow him or want to follow him. Enjoy him while he’s there. Most fans around the country will enjoy the melt down from your fans when he leaves. Penny has 0 wins, so time will tell, but I wouldn’t sell him short, based on his successful start in recruiting. One thing we both will agree on is thank goodness Tubby is not coaching either of our programs.

Has he underachieved? 4 final fours, 2 elite eight's & a national title is hardly underachieving. Very grateful that the great Coach K has had all the elite talent the last 3 seasons & has done nothing with it. It kind of busts up all the theories that if that great coaches were getting the talent Cal was getting they'd win the title every year. Coach K has had elite talent with returning talent & has failed to make the final 4 with arguably 2 of the most talented rosters of all time......or at least that's what was said. Same with IZZO. He sucked with the best freshman class he's ever had.

It takes a special coach to take almost a new team every season & get these super young teams to be clicking by March. He's proven.....it's more than rolling out the balls. I thank Coach K, Izzo, & Pastner for illustrating that for us. Now Penny will reinforce it. Thanks Penny

oh, Cal's great...we were lucky to have him for 9 years. That said, he left Memphis on probation and took committed players...that's not kosher IMHO

we don't need Penny to be Cal...but as I've said I wouldn't mind him being the next Larry finch. Memphis player returns home to coach his alma mater, taking them to 6 NCAA tourneys featuring an Elite Eight and Sweet 16 with homegrown talent.

PARODY OR NOT????

IMO,
If JW TRULY does worship the prophetic reincarnation of the U of M (State) basketball program and its perceived faux savior (One-Cent), what could he possibly be waiting on???
  • Is he afraid of other interior competition at one of the bigger P-5 schools?
  • Or, is he content to just be the big fish in a small pond like U of M?
  • Or does he want to just slide through his 9-months of AAC college at "Lil-Sister" or get pushed to improve his weaknesses at P-5 schools?
  • Or, does he want to dominate and slide through the tough (SI) Memphis AAC conference (AAC: 2-schools received ranking votes) and OOC schedule?
  • Or, does he want to get tested during the SEC and or BIG12 conference and OOC schedules (SEC/BIG-12, 9-schools in rankings)?
Maybe, JW is hoping the Memphis Grizz tank in season before his draft so him and his momma don't have to cut their umbilical cord....................

Maybe, JW is waiting to see if U of M (and One-Cent) gets embarrassed on 11/13 (LSU) beforethe early NLI Signing Date, to give him Memphis "cover"...............

Do we (adults) spend way too much time worrying about basketball phenoms decisions and how they effect our happiness? YES.................

My hope
1A. Carey and/ or
1B. SO. Montgomery or JR. Richards and/ or
1C. Wiseman and/ or
1D. Stewart
It is possible that Wideman is going the Gleague route.

A JR Richardson is all but assured. Most likely coupled with a JR Washington. So no worries on interior players.

Taking an online course for a week before dropping out doesn't count.
I'd say lying about being a teacher and then posting a slightly larger vocabulary here (after you've learned placement and meaning of said words) doesn't make you come off as a "scholarly" type but rather a person in need of attention. School's out son.

Jeffries to Memphis not good for UK it was once a rumor they wanted to play together this commitment along with cal reaching out to other bigs probably means Wiseman to Memphis any day now because his realatonship to penny is more important than playing at UK he can get to the nba just as well at memphis because of his talent so why not play with a friend and help the coach that has been the most loyal to you
Wasn't it like 6 months ago that DJ decommited and Wiseman said that has no impact on him. Did you just get back in the country?

I see you write words say what you think about Wiseman wants to go memphis but friend Jeffries likes penny got him to commit and it’s going to mean Wiseman likes Memphis even more now that friend decided to go there and aardvark now even more likely so Cal not recruiting as well as before when he got all good recruits wanted to play for him this is not good for UK jelly triangle not going to have good tall players playing center will probably loose ten games passive aggressive Memphis love Penny.....
The greatest thing I’ve ever read! Lmao.

These other coaches and fans have no idea.
If splinter fails
To reach the final four again this year then it would be a perfect example of how hard it is with young talent.
The talent from tatums year, last year and this year is insane. If he has no final fours to show for it that would be awesome.
What an old turd that rat is.

He is burning up the recruiting trail. He has recruited the number 21 point guard (132 player nationally), the number 27 point guard ( 159 nationally), the number 9 power forward (47 nationally), the number 21 shooting guard (106 nationally) and the number 28 power forward (120 nationally). He has only one player ranked in the top 100 nationally. Wow. That should be a national championship in the waiting. He better get Wiseman. I bet Cal is shaking in his boots.

No...not at all

Larry did ignore his health (he had Diabetes) and it lead to a sad end for him...had a stroke and leg amputation before dying a few years back. He should have retired and focused on his health

I think I'll write a song dedicated in your honor on my next folk guitar album. The song will be called, "Take me back to the slums of Memphis."

It will have a Woody Guthrie type feel to it. I'll even autograph a pre-release copy for you if you'd like.

"Take me back to the slums of Memphis
Take me back to those sewage vents
Take me back where I learned the Hardaway
Where a Penny gives you more than a mere cent
Take me back to the sewage town
Where in the sewers there stalks a clown
Where Pennywise Hardaway can be found
In the sewage slums of Memphis."

I actually wrote this in less than a minute.

Hey, remember that time Memphis almost landed Cousins, Bledsoe, Wall, and Dodson?

Wasn't that great?

For second time, Cal didn’t leave you on probation, Rose did. As for the committed player in Cousins! He has already said that he didn’t commit to Memphis. He committed to play for Cal!

so you wanna blame the 18-19 year old kids instead of the adult coaches who recruit them and leave multiple schools on probation (Memphis and UMass)?

that's sounds right with this bunch...

I miss the ole Metro...

Memphis, Louisville, Cincy, St Louis, Ga Tech, Florida State, Va Tech, South Carolina, and Southern Miss (when MK Turk had then playing well)
The Metro was pretty brutal back then (if memory serves). I recall a lot of fighting between those schools when they played each other.

I remember working at a restaurant when I was like 16 years old and Virginia Tech's team came in to eat. I was a big fan of Ace Custis and he gave me his autograph. . Unfortunately a few days later he was unable to play against U6. He had food poisoning. :flushed: Great guy though.

I actually wrote this in less than a minute.

Son of Saul obviously lacks attention...
So he starts a silly poem but fails to mention

That he recently argued a 4 year old thread which revealed him to be a fool...

Because he thought Newman was that much better than Booker and was taken to school...

By some knowledgeable posters here who actually know the game...

And by extension knows his basketball acumen is just that lame..

Yet he attacks a poster who actually attended UK..

While he continually lies about his own contributions on this message board everyday...

Now I don't want to come off as rude or downright mean..

But I'm willing to bet Son of Saul is no older than fourteen...

That is right. It was Dana Kirk.

and the sad thing is Larry's best squad was probably his first at Memphis St but they were on NCAA probation from Dana Kirk...Larry's 1987 squad finished 26-8 and beat Louisville to win the Metro conference.
