Everyone's palette is different so it's always going to be subjective. That being said I couldn't disagree with this more. Fancy steakhouses are about the only kind of super high end dining I treat myself to and in Louisville Ruby's to me is unquestionably at the top. Z's Oyster Bar and Steakhouse is 2nd but is not quite Ruby's and I think there is a significant drop after that. Don't get me wrong Stony River, Ruth's Chris, Butchertown Grocery, Bob's, Le Moo, Eddie Merlot's, and a few others are fine and I wouldn't turn down going to but if I'm setting it up unless trying a new place(which I did a couple weekends ago Brooklyn and The Butcher in New Albany literally the worst place I've tried) then it's always Ruby's.
If you're a traveler then Cut in both Vegas and LA , Boa in Santa Monica, Gibson's in Chicago, and Kayne Prime in Nashville were all incredible. Cut in Vegas is probably the best steak I've ever had. May all your cuts be bone in ribeyes and all your temperatures medium rare.
when the Cats were playing in St Petersburg for the '98 elite 8 (came from 17 down to beat Duke), between afternoon and evening games ventured over to Tampa to Berns. Just thought I'd give it a try. The host almost laughed at me when I said I didn't have a reservation, saying I'd have to make arrangements six months in advance. Never did eat there, but have heard it is the best there is.
You are right about it being subjective. For those who eat theirs Medium and above they are wasting their money. Certainly there are quite a few on this thread. There is a fine line between those restaurants above and that also extends down to the particular piece of beef you were given. J Alexanders is one I like...different name now but same place...and Brooklyn and the Butcher is trending down. But you can get a really good piece of meat on a given night about anywhere. Le Moo...meh. I do a really good job myself so I took the fam to Le Moo. When we left one of my fam said....your's is better. Yep.
I'm 0-2 so far at Ruby's. Once in Cincy and once here in Lex. Both times our steaks came out wrong which led to 2 recook attempts each time. By the third delivery attempt our dining experience had been blown. They really botched it both times. I know this can't be the norm at Ruby's but it's unlikely we'll ever go back except maybe to sit at the bar. The strip brought out here in Lex wasn't top tier either. Tony's has the best strip not only in Lex but just about anywhere else. I've eaten at many top level steak houses all over the place including Bern's in Tampa and I can tell you Ruby's, although good, isn't close to what it pretends to be.

Go to Logans Roadhouse and order the New York Strip. It’s not known, but that specific steak is prime quality beef, injected with fat after being cut. It’s really quality. Also have a bone in 20oz Ribeye that’s prime quality - also excellent.

Also, how do the steaks compare to say... Longhorn? For the price, that place has some damn good steaks.

Same here. I’ve been to several high end steak houses and I’ve yet to find a prime rib better that Texas Roadhouse. Has anyone been to hickory and oak in bowling green?
You were right and It’s not just the Steaks. Everything they serve is incredible. The atmosphere is always great and their staff works as hard as any place you could go.Fair enough

Horrible. it is sad when the best thing at the joint is the peanuts. Come to Logans Steakhouse, "Our food is so ******, we give away peanuts to offset it." If Logans is your idea of "great" steak, you need to get out more often, or try not to comment on a subject that is obviously not for you. Not a baller, but Logans is the last place I would order a steak from, well other than maybe Sizzler.
