Before I get destroyed with posters about wanting to keep Tim Miles, I am in no way saying we should or shouldn't. In this day of age we all want instant gratification, lets wait another 3 weeks and see what happens.

However, stumbled across this awesome podcast last night featuring TM. Not many coaches would ever ever talk openly about being on the hot seat. I have always found it interesting about the life of a coach. Its easy to think these guys were always made of money but Miles states that he made $27,000 as a NAIA BB coach. We can all agree that it makes this situation he is in right now much harder since he is so likable, imagine this thread if he was an a** like Pelini and wasnt winning.

Gotta remember these guys love their families and it can be stressful in times like this so before you @ Tim miles on Twitter and lash out at him (im guilty sometimes too) remember that it actually affects other people. He makes a lot of money and should obvi be held to a high standard. Twitter can be one of the darkest places in this world sometimes.

Take a listen! https://player.fm/series/good-n-ple...7-tim-miles-what-is-life-on-the-hot-seat-like

3 weeks won't change his 7 year body of work.

So, calling Pelini an a** doesn't affect other people, such as his family?

Just want to make sure I understand the finger-wagging ground rules.

I agree Miles is basically a likable guy. He has a cool dog. Moos was hired to make these decisions and whatever happens happens. No matter what he made in the past, Miles is rich now and based on his demeanor I'm guessing he'll end up happy wherever he is. I could be wrong but I don't even think he'll have many sour grapes if he is let go.

Thanks! So, not great and not horrible...and if you have a spouse that is working you are totally fine. Plus you run some camps in the off-season and snag another 3k-5k.

I also feel like he graduated college later in life, maybe I am wrong.
True. Plus PROBABLY free gear, meals etc.

Many of them teach a class or two also. Not sure if that would be included in that salary... but doubt it

I turned 30 a couple of years before Miles did. I had just finished a master's degree so I took a small pay cut to accept a job paying $32K per year because I felt it had more room for advancement. It worked, and that job put me on a track toward a good income - though I hasten to add that if I get canned tomorrow, there is no $2 million parachute.

I don't begrudge Miles a single penny of what NU has paid him to coach there, or what NU will likely pay him not to coach there anymore. That's only fair, because I wouldn't like it if people said I don't deserve the salaries I've made in my working life. But if I'm supposed to get choked up over the fact that he once worked for $27K, I'm not.

I don't think Miles would be completely disappointed if he wound up back in a Summit league type of a job somewhere. I think he could do that happily for the rest of his days maybe without all the pressure of a power 5 conference job. I know I could IF I wanted to coach. It's much easier though to commentate from my ivory tower than to have to do a publicly scrutinized job. Having my wife scrutinize my work is enough.

I am with you...coaches should take every freaking penny they can. I know I would!

I could see Miles at Wyoming (they suck), I could see him at an AAC school in a second.

You know this is a really good post. Dude is rich beyond his dreams...why not just go coach at a place where no one cares and enjoy it, still making nice money and doing what you love.

Romar (from Washington) coaches at Pepperdine now.

Imagine that view for your retirement job...

I think Miles will end up at South Dakota State, as I expect TJ Otzelberger to move up to a bigger job after this season. Brookings is close to Miles' home town.

Not that I think every good player transfers when his coach leaves, but if Otzelberger departs it will be interesting to see if David Jenkins, Jr. stays at SDSU. That guy is a beast.

I would say almost all of those guys coaching at that level, aren't doing it for the money. To get to the "big time" is probably a similar statistical probability as a college athlete making the pros. Regardless of how this chapter ends, he won and won big (except on the W-L meter).

Yeah, I agree. I mean they start off wanting to get to the top of the profession and they know that comes with big dollars but the early part of the career is about loving to coach and hopefully advancing.

He may have already let it slip his next job. He accidentally said I have had three ADs here at “North Dakota State”. Yes I know he has been there before.

It is bad our coach doesn’t know what school he is at.

So you're saying Pelini isn't or are you implying that his family is unaware?

I don't know either Bo Pelini or Tim Miles personally. That's why I wouldn't lecture people about making comments that might hurt the feelings of one coach's family, while calling the other coach an a** in the very same breath. Seems rather selectively sanctimonious to me.

The problem with that is that there is way too much public evidence to support the idea that Pelini at least at NU acted like an ******* on multiple occasions. . Miles not so much.

And I could be wrong, but when has anyone here ever suggested that Miles is an *******? I certainly haven't. People quite often question his coaching ability, but I haven't seen anyone say he's a bad person.

So let me get this straight: If I say Miles isn't getting the job done as a head coach, I might hurt his family's feelings. But if I say Bo Pelini's an *******, that's just harmless commentary?

I didn't question you saying that Miles wasn't getting the job done. I think that Bo's family knows he can be an ******* so saying it isn't telling them anything they don't already know. I have in fact heard people call Miles an ******* and Severe on the radio said, "he's not a good person". IMO, one can act like an ******* at times and still be a good person. Bo no doubt has done some good things. Everybody has their moments. Bo has had a LOT of moments. Frankly I would rather have somebody call me out for acting like an ******* than to say on public media that "I'm not a good person". Splitting hairs I know.

Miles is playing a bit of a role, I think most people know that and I think it is smart of him. I would do the same exact thing.

While I've been a very vocal proponent of firing Tim Miles for the past 3 years. I do feel bad for the guy that he's in all likelihood is going to lose his job. I'm sure it'll be tough on his family having to move to a new place. Tim Miles has done a fine job of representing Nebraska and his players are all seemingly very good stewards of the program state and university, it's unfortunate that he was unable to get the job done. I wish him the best in his future endeavors.

Good interview, even though HE screwed up saying having 3 AD’s at North Dakota St...

Now we know that he is admitting that he is on the hot seat with that screaming endorsement of a extra year extension and he realize he has to win 3 in the regular season and at least on tournament game too be considered for the NCAA..

So, is the argument "his first job only paid $27K, therefore he should be kept on here for millions"? I'm not sure that is a valid argument. o_O
