As some of you know, I ended up finding my dream jeep down in hattiesburg and we just love it. I'd post pics but I can't figure out how to host it from my phone... Anyway. I have discoverd that my 20" wheels with 35" tires has slowed down my speedometer. I found a calibrator on extreme terrain for $200. My request before buying this thing is... Anyone on here have one I could borrow? Seems crazy to pay $200 for something I'll use once or atleast once until I change my wheels and tires out.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what this cailbrator will do,

that is, how it's used,

but a garden variety GPS tell you how fast you are going, for the time being.

You plug it into the obd2 computer connection and tell the computer you're running 35s. It calibrates the speedometer and shiftting cycle accordingly.

This is the unit https://www.extremeterrain.com/superchips-flashcal-f5-1216-3571.html

You usually can't transfer them between vehicles. I aev procal and I'm dead on at 70. I know aev will only work on 1 vehicle at a time.

Use Waze on your phone to determine actual speed and note the difference between GPS speed and Jeep Speedometer. Once you know how much your speedo is off drive accordingly.

Can you drive that on the highway or on roads you would likely be speeding on? Looks like it doens't meet any of the current safety standards, except maybe for the roll bar.

No, it was a serious question. Does it meet side-impact safety standards? Or are there special exemptions? And yes of course I've seen Jeeps, and driven them, without doors.

Looks like they're about the same price as two football tickets, to put things in perspective.

Well... Good question. I honestly have no idea. It does keep its side impact airbags with the doors off. So there's that.

Your Jeep dealership should be able to calibrate it for you. They may cut you a deal since you bought it from them.

Jeeps are the only vehicles that can legally ride on the road with the doors off, because the doors are specifically designed to be removable. At least that's what I've always heard.

It is illegal almost everywhere, though, to drive without at least 1 side mirror. As you can see, he has that covered.

Nice looking JK. I had a 2007 model that looked very similar. Unfortunately, the programmer is married to a specific vehicle until the vehicle is returned to a factory installation. The good news is, you should be able to find used (unmarried) superchips flahpaqs for around $150 pretty much on any jeep forum that allows parts sales. You'll need it to not only change tire size, but also adjust shift points or programs to make it a little more peppy with those 35's. You can also read and clear engine codes, and change a few settings to your liking with the controller. Then you can sell the controller for about what you paid for it in a few years when you realize you aren't required to ride in the roughest production vehicle on the streets today. The info about the dealership adjusting for you above is laughable and totally incorrect. Join a few jeep forums and read more than you post, and you'll be an expert in the jeep wave in no time. Good luck!

If you want it to be more "peppy", you have a few options: regear, supercharger, or v8. Flashpaq will do nothing to help with that.

That's how I do it. On my '06 the 31 x 10.50's offset my speed and odometer by about 10%. If it's showing 65 I'm doing about 71. Any faster and it starts shaking enough you don't want to try to go any faster.

Save the 200 for gas. You're going to need it.

I'm not a big jeep fan, especially 4-door jeeps, but that one looks good as Hell. Congrats.

You may want to check out Diablosport. You can make the adjustment with their tuner and their tunes will give you more power. Their tuners allow you to take readings while its running and have a custom tune created based on your Jeep's readouts.

I run one of their stock tunes on my 2012 Super Bee and it makes a noticeable difference in power without doing anything to void the warranty. It's been clocked at 165 on a Dyno without being red-lined with the tune on.

the makers of these units are pretty smart. I bought one for my Wrangler thinking I would use for mine and the resell on Ebay(paid little more than $100)..once you use it on your Jeep, it writes security information onto the unit and you can only use on that vehicle unless you put everything back like it was...works great, but can only use on one vehicle...

Curious what you decided to do BMT. I've been wondering about this too since I don't know if the previous owner calibrated the speedo or not. Hoping you can find a good deal on a calibrator somewhere and send me the link. Think I'm just going to check mine on Waze for now and adjust accordingly. Have too many other wants for my new ride.

I have verified that I am 5mph off at 60mph. I guess I'm going to get the one from extreme terrain I linked above in a little while. Like you, I'm just going to adjust my driving accordingly in the short term.

Heck, I may never buy the calibrator. There are just too many other things I would rather spend my money on for the Jeep. I'll just compare the speedo to Waze at some common MPHs (35, 45, 55, 65) and adjust. Have already bought mirrors for when I have the doors off. Then I also had to buy a 3rd brake light and extender bracket since the 3rd brake light is required to pass state inspection here in TX. The guy I bought it from in OKC had just left it off when he put on the bigger tire b/c OK doesn't do state inspections.

I have already bought:
Some halo LED headlights
Wild Boar oh **** grab handles from the front
Alien Sunshade "bikini" top (I'm not sure they're called bikini tops anymore
One of the plug and play back up cameras from Extreme Terrain. The one that is plug and play with the Nav radio
and a heavy duty hinge replacement and spare tire relocator from Extreme Terrain

Yeah... I'm going to hold off on the calibrator for now. But I'm the kind of person who the speedometer being off with drive nuts... So.. Ill get one.

I think my next purchase will be either an Alpine or Sony Headunit with Apple Carplay.

Man, you're buying stuff like crazy. Mine already had halo LED headlights and they're nice; I love them. Also already have the grab handles that wrap around the roll bars, but want to get some of the GraBars that bolt into the A-pillar. He also had a bikini top he included. He put Tera Flex heavy duty hinge replacement on too which is really nice. If you're going to do the backup camera and a new head unit in that order, you may should double check that your backup camera is compatible with the head units you're looking at.

Since you're spending money like a drunken sailor, may I recommend this head unit. If money was no object, this would be the one I would get. https://alpine-usa.com/product/view/jeep-wrangler-radio-apple-carplay-android-auto-i209-wra

AEV Procal

I have the AEV Procal for recalibrating tires. Works fine and includes a couple extra options you might not realize you need:
- Low Tire Pressure adjustment (lower it, or just turn it off)
- RPM high idle (for running a compressor or winch while idling)

If you're 'making it rain', may I offer a few suggestions:
- LED Headlights are a must. Mine are quadratec stealths, Trucklites are the standard
- I have the spiderweb shade, you'll like it
- If you intend to offroad much, definitely need to pick up an engine/trans skidplate. Lot's of good OEM armor under there, but the oil pan is just hanging out, begging for a rock or something to punch a hole in it. Plenty of cheap and effective options.
- A couple of cheap sheepskin seatbelt covers. Wrap 'em around where the belt goes into the reel. Keeps them from flapping on the highway.
- These little jewels: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVT9ZA2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Screw them onto the bottom post of your doors and it'll make them so much easier to put back on!
