Not very impressed by their play callingHow about the JCA clock management and play calling at the end of the half?
If they win, I hope you're right.Win and in all but certain
And effectively knock Loyola out of the playoffs to sweeten the dealWin and in all but certain
Not necessarily at all. Gonna depend on how many 4 win teams are needed. Loyola will have plenty of playoff points as well.
Huh? A JCA loss would help Loyola because it would give PC the win and an extra playoff point for Loyola. Soucie saying 4 four win teams needed as of now.Lots of results have NOT gone Loyola's way tonight. In fact, they were probably out without the JCA win
I hear ya. Onside kick coverage needs work to say the least.I can't believe it ended that close.
The strange thing is that JCA got the lead in part by PC imploding on special teams in the first half. The bad punt snap (that should have been a TD recovered by JC, but instead resulted in 3 points after they ruled the punter had possession and was down) and then JCA's last punt of the 2nd quarter with under a minute to go. All PC had to do was let it roll and go to half. Instead, they tried to field it and muffed it, giving JC the ball back with seconds to go in the red zone. They were able to tack on 3 more.I hear ya. For all of Plantz’ alleged recruiting prowess, he’s now 1-5 against JCA.
St. Francis? They beat them once already.PC likely favorite in 5A. I just don't see much in that bracket to stop them.
No doubt capable. Whichever team shoots themselves in the foot less will definitely win that game.St. Francis? They beat them once already.
Very true regarding the impact special teams had on the game for both teams. On the bad punt snap by PC, I believe Coach Jaws was arguing the point you made regarding whether or not it should have been a TD and the spot of the ball. He got a sideline warning, and then a 5-yard penalty. I thought that penalty was big. JCA's offense is not good enough to overcome a key penalty like that in the red zone, which led to the FG. BTW, JCA's kicker is outstanding. The strange thing is that JCA got the lead in part by PC imploding on special teams in the first half. Those 6 points off of special teams blunders were the ultimate difference.
I am also fairly certain the second onside recovery hit a Celtic before 10 yards. That still doesn't excuse the letdown in the fourth quarter, but I would like to see that film again. Just funny how special teams swung so wildly from one side to the next this game.
What was up with the PC QB situation? Injury? Whoever was in during the fourth quarter did a real nice job. JC defense looked terrific for 3.5 quarters. Interesting game.

On the onside kicks, it looked like the Hilltoppers were too passive. It seemed as if they were waiting for the ball to go 10 yards. As the receiving team, they should have attempted to more aggressively recover the kicks. Don't wait for the ball to go 10 yards. And all 3 onside kicks were kicked in the same direction and seemingly the same spot. DB Steve Martin stepped up and aggressively recovered the third, which no one did on the first two.
PC's starting Soph QB, Vita, was injured on the 2-point conversion attempt after the TD to make it 30-13. They brought in Sr Leo Slepski, and as has been stated, he played very well in leading PC to 2 TDs after the onside kick recoveries. PC was hurting JCA with quick screens during those 2 TD drives. The ol prevent defense also contributed to PC's success after JCA had been dominant on defense up to that point.
All year, I've not understood why JCA QB Simulick has not run more. He's a terrific athlete with very good speed and elusiveness. Last night? His first run was for 45 yards and his second went for 94 from the JCA 3 to the PC 3. Go figure.
