Jay will never coach in the pros, and the only program he will ever coach in the future will be VU again. Unique relationship with the school and Jay is indebted to them.

For the last ten years or so, if anyone had asked me who I would choose as our HC if I could steal any college coach in the country, my answer would have been Jay Wright without having to think about it.

IMO, he has been an exemplary standard bearer of excellence and good sportsmanship in college athletics. His teams play hard with a distinct style. He is one of very few college coaches who didn’t just stockpile talent, but targeted high level recruits who fit their style of play and stayed with the program for several years.

I just think the job he’s done at Villanova has been magnificent. He’s been all class his entire career and his exit is showing how the classy ones do it.

The game is slowly evolving and looking more and more like the NBA. Add in NIL and we get even closer.

I doubt Jay is going to the NBA. 5 years ago I wouldn’t consider the NBA over a big time college coaching job if the money was in the same ballpark. Today why take on the headache of recruiting externally and now internally.
