RU. Where coaches go to die. But, then again, Jay isn't a coach, is he? Danny Hurley makes more sense, although not necessarily for Danny.

Jay is from Jersey. That's about the only part of that headline that makes any sense.

Rutgers had some solid, but unremarkable teams in the late 80s / early 90s that I vaguely remember. But, apparently, they haven't been to the NCAAs in 25 years. While I wouldn't begrudge Jay for trying to go for the instant pay day (i.e., he probably can get a guaranteed $8-10 million over a 5 yr. deal), I can't imagine a scenario where this ends well on the court. Plenty of former Duke guys with more preparation than Jay have fallen on their face after taking power 5 coaching jobs. Even if Jay could get the level of player he needs to compete in the Big 10 (which is highly questionable at a place like Rutgers), I just don't think there's anyway he could coach at the level he would need to in order to resurrect a moribund program like this. He's not taking over a program like Duke, where, in many years, our squad could probably make the NCAAs with very mediocre coaching.

Here's what RU should do. Hire Larry Brown or Rick Pitino to a two year contract with a "I won't do anything illegal clause." Recruit the **** out of Jersey for two years and then hire someone with integrity to reap the benefits.

Rutgers was undefeated along with Indiana in the 1976 tournament. Michigan beat them in the semis

If you could recruit NYC, Jersey, Philly, and DC, you have a shot. Big question is, how come nobody there has been able to do so? Currently, their programs are a total mess.
