Because of the portal, NIL and rule changes. 5+ years ago, a top 50 kid wouldn’t have a bunch of schools on that list. It would have been a pipe dream. Now the incoming players are devalued.

That didn’t stop high majors from being interested in kids in recent past. It’s the value placed on older, portal players now. Athletic has an article recently about how mid-majors are getting top 100 kids now they never could before. We’ve seen that a bit in recent years too.

Yup, which probably explains tepid majors interest and his favorites.
Yea kind of..almost all college sports have now become:

Unless you are elite elite..the big schools will let you go to a small school and if you’re really that good they’ll pick you up down the road

So much less risk for them..you see it across the board

That's what happened with Clark. Sha gives him a chance on the big stage and then after one year he bolts.

Same thing is happening with Bozella's players. For most the only loyalty is to their bank accounts.

With Clark…what loyalty? And we aren’t the big stage..that’s the problem

And why pick on Clark? The REAL example is Hines..who we took out of HS and he bolted (somehow totally above board and with sadness in DH heart) to a rival

The Big East, one of the best power conferences in the country isn't a big stage?

Interesting list for a top 50 player.
Others have already answered this, but Gary Parrish from CBS discussed this last month on his podcast. He compared similarly ranked HS recruits from the class of 2027 to pre-portal era classes (i.e. class of 2017). Across the board, the demand for HS recruits is down.

In his examples, he looked at the players ranked around ~60th 10+ years ago and they were all committed to and/or held offers from elite programs (Michigan State, Kansas, UNC, etc.). Those same tier recruits today are being recruited by much lower-level programs (Virgina Tech, Dayton, etc.).

It makes sense, with rare exceptions you aren't retaining a player more than 2 years and no matter how good a HS prospect is he will likely be overmatched by the experience and physical maturity of a 24 year old portal recruit.

5/10 years ago, St. Bonaventure, Loyola Chicago and UNLV are likely not on this kids list. West Virginia with the right coach and at the right point in time, maybe. Seton Hall - with the right connect/circumstances, maybe. Ditto for Providence. And you'd likely have a ton of bigger players heavily competing for a top 50 PG prospect, even if undersized. And as you point out, the reason for this change is pretty obvious. Let the 18-year old kid get PT and develop for a year or maybe two, and then swoop in to take him in the portal if he shows something.

We have been unable to retain our employees/players over the last two years.
Is it working conditions, buyers remorse, uncompetitive salaries, or something else?

It didn’t work last year or the year before lol. His best pg was Richmond who was anything but lightning quick
Clark had a great year. But he can’t do it by himself. You need other players and someone that can consistently hit the three. Not sure if you know basketball but the talent on Richmond’s senior year at the Hall dwarfed last year talent. But Richmond didn’t make the tournament either. And if you recall, Aiken outplayed Richmond before he got hurt.

Clark had the worst statistical season of his career playing for Sha.

I don’t recall Aiken ever outplaying Richmond. May have been the most overhyped transfer here ever.
