His coordination issues must be frustrating to him. Based on his general clumsiness and his odd mannerisms, it feels almost neurological to me. I hope he can overcome the goofiness, because his mind and body are unique.

Agreed, the kid is a good athlete with an even better motor. The good thing is he will always be a quality defender, but it is tough to see him struggle with the coordination issues especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Love Javin’s Motor and Defense, just need him to stop picking up early fouls every time he is in the game.

I think he will gradually get better. I think he was just so wound up. He may never be an offensive weapon at Duke, but I just think he needs more games to settle in to his role.
He was better in the 2nd half.

Javin was the best dunker on the roster every year he has been here until this one. He is incredible. I think the game just has never slowed down for him. If it ever does, watch out.

To clarify, my comments aren’t meant to bring the guy down. He appears to be doing everything the right way. I wanted to see if anyone has any insight as to what could be going on. If I’m overanalyzing, tell me.

He needs reps with the first team. He and Bolden should get plenty of quality time with minimal pressure, allowing both to develop and improve their skills and confidence. If our bigs improve throughout the year, this team has unlimited upside. Scary, considering last night.

He just doesn’t seem like he has played basketball that long, or didn’t have to focus on fundamentals when you develop them into muscle memory as a youngster, because he’s always been an incredible athlete.

Stay out of the penalty box Javin, that will get you more court time, which will increase your confidence and contribution

Javin will be fine. He looks better each time he steps out there on the court. I was a little annoyed by that travel but he will be okay!
Really? I don't think he looks that much different than he did as a freshmen when we were all drooling over his upside. I think he needs more game experience. He is always in foul trouble which limits his minutes and hurts his confidence (which was already not the highest because of his poor shooting ability). But if you asked me two years ago, I would have expected a bigger jump by now. With that said, I think he is good for this team because he doesn't need the ball in his hands. Hopefully, he works on his leadership because he is going to have a MAJOR role next season as our senior captain.

He’s just enjoying his time and I think it calls for easy mistakes.

I think he’ll get it together

Honestly, I think he's just thinking too much. The walk leading up to the dunk was an example. It sort of looked like he was thinking about passing or holding the ball before going up. He seemed a bit surprised he was that open and you could see him talking to himself after.

I think he'll be a terrific piece when he is able to just act instinctively and not overthink things.

Javin has had all the athleticism in the world since he stepped foot on the Duke campus, he looks like an NBA player: size, length, athleticism. However, he was a 4-star recruit for a reason, he lacks basketball skills.

He is needed though. He plays physical, aggressive, and has size. There will be games where Zion is in foul trouble, and Bolden just doesn't have it. We will need Javin for 25+ minutes in some games, and I still have confidence in him. This team is IDEAL for Jav, he doesn't even to touch the ball on offense, just crash the boards, set good screens, and lock down on D.
