The NBA drafts on upside.

Think back to when Vanderbilt committed to UK, and all of the many reasons you were excited about it. He has the potential to be a 6'9" point forward. In a league that has become obsessed with perimeter play, small ball, and "positionless" basketball... can you see why Vanderbilt's upside and potential would be intriguing to scouts?

but you have to show something in the college game - some flashes were there - but imho not enough to risk a 1st round draft pick on. And are you willing to take that risk as a free agent in the G-league or overseas when they can cut you at any time? who pays if he gets injured again? rehab? at least at UK he will get the best care in the world and get to work on his game on the biggest stage.

I don't know if you are a bigger loser for posting that, or for coming to this board pretending to be a uk fan to spew that garbage.
Either way you are a POS.

I would hope that he returns. Kid's setting himself up for a big struggle if he goes pro. I'm just being honest.

The G League will be filled with players in this draft. I have not looked at all the second round options, but I would draft him in the second round. If he could stay healthy, he would probably make a roster in a year or two. For his size, he passes very well, sees the floor and has a handle. His motor and rebound anticipation are way above average. I think he could be a decent defender. Some teams need guys like him. His shot will likely improve (seemed better to me in high school).

With his skinny frame and propensity to injury, no way I waste a first round pick on him. But, had he not been injured this year, I think only Knox would be a higher draft pick. I thInk Knox is the only guy who spends the majority of the season next year on an NBA roster and not in the GL.

No way he gets drafted in 1st round so Cal should advise to stay . Isn't that the metric Cal uses in advising our players ? I want him back , he might be good one of these days but another player with not just weaknesses or a hole in his game but many many shortcomings . Great motor , great fetcher ( I was a shooter , I loved fetchers ) can defend , but isn't big or strong enough to make a living on rebounding alone . Must develop some type of O .

? If Cal advises guys who are 1st rounders to go , does he advise those who are not to stay ? Seems to me like he likes the publicity of telling guys to go but seems like he's pretty quiet on advising guys to stay ? I could be wrong .

The best decision for Vanderbilt would be to return and be the best college student and athlete that he can be. However, I have no confidence he, or whoever makes his decisions for him, will make the best decision.

Good points, I guess I just never bought into the Giles hype. Not knocking the kid I just never saw anything that said "superstar" about his game.

Give me a healthy Vando all day and twice on Sunday over a healthy Giles.

Right but:

1. A healthy Giles WAS considered by the experts to be a big deal.
2. Same as there's no promise Giles will be healthy/the same--there's no promise for JV

I agree with Fitch 44
Bud constantly bashes Vanderbilt.
You know nothing about basketball if you don’t want a player like him on team.

Would have loved seeing him play against KSU. His rebounding and hustle alone would have changed the outcome of the game.

I guarantee he would have rebounded a couple of PJ’s missed free throws or at least kept a couple in play for another player to rebound.

He also is pretty close to averaging a double double only playing 17 minutes a game.

Not too mention he is a elite passer with good handles.

His hustle reminds me of MKG of the 2012 Championship team who came up with several huge plays on hustle alone BUD!
