Were his 3rd college in 3 years too. After a year at a JUCO. They’re saying he may have 2 years left. Who cares? he won’t be here in 27-28 either way. It's a joke. I'd feel worse for Josh if we weren't in this era where he gets paid well to endure this misery.
We are bringing in placeholders. Just the way it is.
probably throwing him six figures to come here and disappoint us - boo ****** hoo. if you're reading sixpack as a 20 year old athlete then that in and of itself is a problem.Imagine how the new guy feels after reading this thread.
Storr wasn't a miss. He was their leading scorer. I get that he's just one guy, but sometimes hitting on one guy is enough. The year that before he hit on two - Dia and Padulla and then he got Dia back for a second year. All three of those guys are better than basically anything we have had out of the portal in Jans' tenure.Since so many on this board are obsessed with OM - thier coach is considered one of the top coaches in the game and he totally blew his evals last year too.
MAY? This has been our offensive philosophy for three straight years now.Hubbard may have to shoot EVERY time he touches it.
And hasn't won a tourney game despite being favored in two of them. Also has a 29-43 40% winning rate in the SEC only behind Bob Boyd and Rick Ray the last 45 seasons, and Boyd at least produced two .500 SEC seasons. Jans has zero which is the same amount of his NCAA tourney wins. He's paid too well for the results he's produced. He's the 19th highest paid coach in the nation at 4.4M. He is the highest paid coach without a NCAA Tourney win at his current school, and along with the Penn State coach are the only two in the Top 25 without a tourney win. Win something and get back to me.On one hand I get the frustration. But on the other hand - we’ve been to the NCAA tourney 14 times ever as a program. Jans has taken us to 21% of those appearances in just 4 years. The dude is batting 75% on the tourney since he was hired.
He blew some evaluations last year, but so did a lot of coaches. The landscape changes every day in this new 17ed up system and he got burned last year. Since so many on this board are obsessed with OM - thier coach is considered one of the top coaches in the game and he totally blew his evals last year too.
I think that's case across the board in college basketball. Some schools are getting place holders from Belk while others are getting them from Dollar General. Some are getting them from Dollar Tree.We are bringing in placeholders. Just the way it is.
For the first time in my life, I didn't watch the tournament. College basketball is the worst with business deals and it was already bad.I think that's case across the board in college basketball. Some schools are getting place holders from Belk while others are getting them from Dollar General. Some are getting them from Dollar Tree.
So this is like Lebbys first signing day when he said we did a good job filling in the back end of our roster. At some point you have to sign some players who can play in the SEC.And he'll likely be coming off the bench here as well. They have a lot of spots to fill, not every addition is going to be a star player. I actually like the type of players they're targeting from a size, length and athleticism standpoint. If they can close strong I think this roster will be much better defensively. Post play, center in particular, is very much TBD.
You think he’s going to even bother to find out really anything about Mississippi state? It’s just a 6-8 month temporary stop for him.Imagine how the new guy feels after reading this thread.
And yet, their coach still found a way to make them competitive by the end of the season. I’d be a little more forgiving of this past season if I was seeing any indication it won’t be a repeat next season. Or even worse. On one hand I get the frustration. But on the other hand - we’ve been to the NCAA tourney 14 times ever as a program. Jans has taken us to 21% of those appearances in just 4 years. And at least 1 of those tournament appearances was a play in game he lost. Not the real tournament. Or at the very least a bid not available to previous coaches. And hasn't won a tourney game despite being favored in two of them. Exactly! He's just filling out a roster with no apparent intention of being competitive.
Your original post was about Tajuan Simpkins, and that's who I'm referring to as a depth piece as Johnson will likely by the other starting guard next to Hubbard. I'm not setting that expectation for the remainder of the portal class, because they still need a quality 3 and 5.So this is like Lebbys first signing day when he said we did a good job filling in the back end of our roster. At some point you have to sign some players who can play in the SEC.
True. Also, Howland's 2020 team would've made it if Covid hadn't have occurred. And at least 1 of those tournament appearances was a play in game he lost. Not the real tournament. Or at the very least a bid not available to previous coaches.
No different than last yearHubbard may have to shoot EVERY time he touches it.
No, it wouldn't have. We were on the outside looking in and greatly underachieving.True. Also, Howland's 2020 team would've made it if Covid hadn't have occurred.
The portal signings aren’t over. Typical patdog. Dooooom. DOOOOOOOOMSo this is like Lebbys first signing day when he said we did a good job filling in the back end of our roster. At some point you have to sign some players who can play in the SEC.
That's all well and good, but damn our fans have some short memories. Jans completely 17ed up last year and put us in a hole for the upcoming year. There are real reasons to be concerned. But being in the tourney 3 out of 4 years is still hugely successful for us, and any sane fane would sign up for that performance right now over the next 4 years. And hasn't won a tourney game despite being favored in two of them. Also has a 29-43 40% winning rate in the SEC only behind Bob Boyd and Rick Ray the last 45 seasons, and Boyd at least produced two .500 SEC seasons. Imagine having to explain why you've had to play at 3 different colleges and a JUCO in your career so far and were STILL a backup at Seton HallImagine how the new guy feels after reading this thread.
If he can't take the heat get the hell out! These players want to be viewed as professionals, so they need to take it and grin. We have enough p u ss y players on the team as it is!You think he’s going to even bother to find out really anything about Mississippi state? It’s just a 6-8 month temporary stop for him.
Wish I could get paid $4.2 MIL per year to blow my jobHe blew some evaluations last year, but so did a lot of coaches.
And some are out at daylight on Saturday morning cruising the garage sale scene…..Some schools are getting place holders from Belk while others are getting them from Dollar General. Some are getting them from Dollar Tree.
We'd definitely look different, but I don't know that we would have ended up that much worse. As good as Hubbard is, he has somewhat been responsible for Jans shifting away from his preferred style, which hasn't had great results. Kudos for Jans for trying to adjust to having a tool like Hubbard, but I'm not sure we don't end up in the same place (if with an uglier product to the extent that's possible) if Jans starts from scratch. We grossly overachieved that first year when it was basically a Jans style team with tons of focus on defense. We've underachieved and then fell apart trying to trade off some defense for more offense.Imagine if Kermit hadn't been fired. We wouldn't have gotten Hubbard. How bad would we be?
The 2020 team needed to win multiple games in the SECT to get in the NCAA. My memory is that they were not in the projected fields prior to the SECT - they were either First Four Out or Next Four Out.True. Also, Howland's 2020 team would've made it if Covid hadn't have occurred.
Hell, we were 20-11 and 4th in the SEC with an 11-7 record. If that's underachieving what does that say about Jans' records? No, it wouldn't have. We were on the outside looking in and greatly underachieving..
In a 68-team tournament & no segregation we probably have at least 10 more ncaa tournaments. So it’s a bit disingenuous to say Jan’s has X% of all of our ncaa tournament appearances.True. Also, Howland's 2020 team would've made it if Covid hadn't have occurred.
But they didn’t go so it doesn’t count. If you’re not going to count Jan’s play in game you can’t count appearances that didn’t happen. In a 68-team tournament & no segregation we probably have at least 10 more ncaa tournaments. So it’s a bit disingenuous to say Jan’s has X% of all of our ncaa tournament appearances.
