Random question on a random statement.

What is the purpose of steering young athletes to soccer? I get everyone cant make these leagues....but is soccer a sport where you can have some type of better chance just by deciding to steer towards it? Equally hard to reach the top level with world class athletes already participating. Why not steer these want ta be athletes to business degrees, nuclear engineering?

Youth soccer has become so much about pay to play that it is starting to miss out on better players. Not everyone can afford the costs of club/academy soccer clubs so some kids never get seriously into the sport.

I've recently talked to a college head coach and professional trainers who feel that this is hurting the game in the US and that the model needs to change.

Can’t they do both? Become a great athlete and get a business degree?

I was being sarcastic saying we need to direct young people to something the poster perceives he would be more successful in, when they are children. I was just providing random things that Grant could have had a better professional chance in using the posters logic.

so yes i agree with you.

Soccer is one of the most boring sports there is. For one thing the field is so big it takes forever before a team gets near the goal when some action begins. And most of the time one team kicks the ball to the other team in the middle of the field prolonging the time before action begins near the goal. A high scoring game is like 2-1.

Extra Point, I have no idea why they refuse to make the goal bigger. I am not sure it would make a big difference in creating interest in America, but a few more goals a game would not hurt. There just isn’t any scoring. I am ok with a 2-1 baseball game or a 14-10 football game, but would not want to see every game like that. I would also like to see a reduction in hockey goalie pad size. It is like they have two big screen tv’s strapped to their legs these days.

Very happy for J. I expect him to be hugely successful as a return man in the CFL. If not for the couple of fumbles, he'd still be the return man for the Ravens.

Ever stood in front of a regulation net? They are much larger than they appear.
