Just a horrible post. Slightly underperforming? Maybe.

Archie Goodwin 2.0? Not even close.
Agreed. The OP here is an overreaction which was made during the game, most likely. Yeah, he made a couple bad plays but he also showed us why he's so highly rated in the second half. His second half line: 12pts, 3assists, 3 rebs, 2-4 from 3.

I know we forget because he is so hyped, but he's a freshman playing in his 10th game at this level.

Now, Archie Goodwin was raw as a freshman. Talented, but raw. That doesn't describe Murray at all. It's a poor comparison.

Murrays got some great skills and a great feel for the game. He fixes his shot and he's going to take off. He has a hitch in his release your pic shows perfectly. He over exaggerates his wrist cock and holds it a beat too long before releasing IMO. Seems to disrupt the rhythm of his release. For a guy that looks so solid at the line it's odd to see him look so uncomfortable and hesitant from outside. Of course the more you miss the more you hesitate and it's a perpetuating problem.

Love to see him just catch and release without holding that release. The guys got great hands and needs to allow that natural touch to take over.
Reading your post I couldn't help but think about the golfer in Tin Cup - he had a hitch in his swing.

He does turn it over a lot, but most of his are in the course of trying to make something happen, which Cal is ok with. If they were mostly unforced or selfish, and wasn't scoring and getting it to people in scoring position as well, then it would be a bigger problem.

Murray has had 29 turnovers this season (avg 2.9 per game). Not bad, considering, as you said, it was in the course of trying to make something happen. He also has had a total of 26 assists (avg 2.6 per game) - not great, but he isn't the lead pg, either.

I don't really consider Murray a turnover machine - what he's doing, IMO, is part of normal freshmen development.

Much like another fellow freshmen and this team in general, Murray is very overrated. Outside of an exhibition game and 1-2 regular games he's shot like crap and he's turned into a turnover waiting to happen. At this point he's playing identical to how Goodwin played here.

Where's are those posters from earlier this year who said it was too early to worry about anything and that everything would be fine?

At this point I'm more looking forward to 2017 than April 2016 because we are a S16 team at best right now.

His shooting percentages are higher in every conceivable category than Malik Newman. You know, Malik Newman, the guy you wanted more than anyone in the class? The guy you drooled over all Spring/Summer? Tell us more about how he's the best scorer in the class.

He's no where close to Goodwin. Way better outside shooter and he's worlds ahead in basketball IQ. Goodwin was a turnover or wild shot waiting to happen and was probably the most selfish player I've ever seen in a UK uniform. Murray has a ton of talent but is adjusting to the college game.
I'm going to have to disagree with you regarding Goodwin. I don't think he was selfish so much as he was trying to take up the slack for the lack of guard play around him. I thought his effort was through the roof. Harrow more or less quit on the team. Polson - might've had the heart, but didn't have the talent.
Archie averaged 31.8 mgp,14 ppg, shot 44%, the 64 % from the line was ugly, also had 4.6 rpg, 2.7 apg. But really, he was not nearly as bad as folks are making him out to be.

OP was quite a bit harsh though Goodwin is not bad. I will still state as I have many times in different threads that these Cats are NOT used to playing at the speed will have them playing at. If anyone noticed today that these Cats when they were in the "true" dribble drive motion offense today about mid second half it was a thing of beauty. They had two or three of those going and the other team was totally out of kilter but I think Cal pulled them back or changed their sets.

Poy took it up a notch the last couple games and....I hope he keeps it out of beast mode for a while yet.

I am still confident in this team excelling and in NO way agree with Pukey V's assessment's today. (He is a total tool and senile. ESPN would do well to put him out to pasture as he is going to really make a Vitale or vital mistake on air soon.)

I look for this team to PEAK differently than Cal's other teams. I think Cal has learned and will do things a little different at the end of the season than he ahs in the past. jmuo

Zay he's got some issue right now that's for sure. I think he's got more in the arsenal at this point in his career than Archie did. He's a work in progress but I believe he's a big part of us winning in March.

And for some of the others speaking about Archie's time here, he shot something like 6% from 3 and was a member of the NIT team. Criticizing him is fine with me.

Murray is still adjusting to his role on the team. I'm perfectly happy with him thus far. I'd actually like to see him shoot more and be more aggressive.

Goodwin was a Freshman who was the only scorer on a mediocre team. He did his best to win. He was the least of that team's problems.

Agreed with everything. Murray is more talented than Archie no doubt.

My main point in the comparison was poor shooting plus a lot of turnovers from the SG/SF position.

I appreciate your reasonable post.

Me: 3 games into the year and I'm starting to worry about 3pt shooting.

Nearly every response: it's only 3 games in and you're worried about shooting? It's just 3 games and they will be fine.

Well we are now 25% of the way done and the shooting is as bad as ever.

And just curious, what was my opinion on the twins that was so wrong?
Our 3pt shooting is the same percentage as it was last year at this time.

You're literally talking about next year in your exasperation over a 9-1 team with only double digit wins, including a number of tourney teams and a top 10 squad, and a single away loss.

And our last two wins were both 20 pointers by the last TV timeout.

Are you listening to yourself?

Goodwin had some tough times but gave effort at least. That being said, any issues Murray has (which are not big) are nothing like Goodwins.
If Murrays jumper starts falling again...like is second half...he is an all American caliber player.

OP sir. You are wrong about J-Dawg. Murray is one of the best guards in the nation and will be a lotto pick. Heck man he scored 17pts today.

I agree with you Bko about 90 % of the time. But this isn`t one of them. I always got the opinion that old Arch wanted to be the show. That was a frustrating year.

Really? Who else was on that team that did anything?

Our best player went down and even he was not that good offensively.

We had zero at PG.

Who else did we have that was an offensive threat other than Kyle if he was wide open?

Yes he put his head down and drove, yes he did not pass well on the break, but that team was offensively deficient. He took a lot of shots and still hit a higher % than the other two starting guards.

I agree with an earlier poster, the amount of disrespect for Archie is sad

I respect the guy Brian, hell I never played for Ky. i`m just saying I think he could have made some people around him better and maybe by doing so made the team a little better. I couldn`t count the times he lowered his head going down the lane and throw up a prayer with guys busting their butts filling the sides and he would not even look for them. It`s my opinion that he was a little too much (i`m gonna get mine ) type guy.

He was too much, drove me crazy too, but I think a case could be made that there were no candidates to get better. Archie was not a PG, he's a scorer and instead of being able to pick his spots ala MKG he was forced to create them.

That team lacked so much and Goodwin played very hard start to finish every game so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

BTW

i didn't mind Archie. We didn't have the players around him for him to succeed.
We had nothing around Archie once Nerlens went down. Most of the time, if Archie wasn't doing something, nobody was! Archie gets a bad rap IMHO. I do understand some of the comparisons but Jamal is definitely the better shooter.

the amount of disrespect goodwin gets on this boards is pathetic and classless.
This post is almost as uniformed as the OP.
Please tell us what a "uniformed" post really is. If you decide to throw out such arbitrary statements don't demonstrate your limited mental capacity by using words that don't exist. What type of uniforms would this post be wearing? And for the record, I've been watching UK basketball for close to 50 years and have seen multiple players come and go so please impart your knowledge on why this post is "uniformed". For the record it's "misinformed" , so the next time you attack a poster please try to use the correct grammatical context.

actually - uninformed, which is the word Brian intended, I'm sure, IS a word, and it means not having or showing awareness or understanding of the facts; where as misinformed means given false or inaccurate information.

I'm certain it was a simple typo.

You can watch for 100 years and still be wrong (i can see that a typo hurts your feelings or you are just really bad at sarcasm).

If you think that was an attack you really should read more on here, it was an opinion.

I agree with your take on Murray, i disagree with the selfish part. He drove me crazy as well, but looking back who else did we have on offense?

We have fans who only watch the ball, even ones who have watched a long time. He played extremely hard every minute, he was our first, second, and third option. He actually shot better than the other two guards even with much more volume.

He forced a lot of shots and took a lot of heat, but looking back we were pretty bad.

If a fan cannot see that he was our best offensive player and put in a bad situation thanks to our PG, injuries, ect, then they may be construed as "uninformed" by someone with a differing opinion.

By the way your grammar policing is awful as well:

un·in·formed
ˌənənˈfôrmd/
adjective
  1. not having or showing awareness or understanding of the facts.

Why in the hell would i ever use misinformed?

mis·in·form
ˌmisənˈfôrm/
verb
past tense: misinformed; past participle: misinformed
  1. give (someone) false or inaccurate information.

Did someone lie to you?
